Door locked, key won't work

Hi all, My patio door is locked and the key has stopped working. Any ideas on how to solve this problem? It's straight forward enough if the door is open, but I don't know what to do now! I've unscrewed the handles from both sides of the door, but this doesn't help. Thanks, Sean.

You're gonna have to do what burglars do and yank the cylinder out with a vice-grips:

Any point in oiling the key, I wonder? Would you get any help from thr installer?
