I did the Skerries sprint tri today, only my second race. The bike section was a killer. The black hills almost had me turning back. I really did enjoy it when I finished.

What other sprints would be tough for a beginner?

I've done the first, not the second. The Kerry Head cycle is pretty uphill most of the way which is what makes it a bit harder, no really steep climbs though IIRC.

Just looked at the 2009 Brian Boru results, winner came in at 1:17, looks pretty tough all right.

The HOTW on Saturday was a first Tri for a friend of mine. He went very well for his first tri too - 2:48
