A few couples heading there in August and wondering whether anyone has any experience of clubs over there? Without the seedy stuff that goes with the city a lot of the time :)

Googling isn't looking very promising, that Bed Superclub looks crap tbh. So if you have good advise i'd appreciate it.

    Cheers.

I think there are a few big super club type places with podium dancers and the usual type of flair. Will prob be full of hot chicks who you'll want to try to pretend are not hookers...

    Have you been Colly?

I spoke briefly with a friend last night about it. He basically said avoid Bangkok, the islands is where the fun is at at night.

I've been but did not go to any clubs really. Oh except for a huge outdoor club on Koh Samui where the next day I had the worst hangover ever. I absolutely loved bangkok - definitely don't miss it. Amazing place, I just love totally different cultures. Loads to see and do if you know what you are looking for. I found some of the islands like Koh Samui pretty horrible. 100% tourist orientated, you just get accosted constantly by people trying to sell you something or ladyboys. Go to the smaller islands or get out of the main touristy places I'd say.

Do a bit of googling for clubs etc and you might find some stuff, let us know as I might be going myself in a few months...

Cheers man. Pointers like that I'm looking for alright. Love different cultures myself and have been trying to decide for a good few months now where exactly to go, with Oz, China and Sri lanka being put off for another year it seems.
But I found trailfinders had the best package in the end and we'll be hitting 2 more capitals, jungles and the like also before coming back.

You thinking of heading over for Christmas?

I will prob be going back in sept/oct to meet an Australian friend I have not seen in years, she really wants to go. Personally i loved Thailand but its pretty commercial, I'd like to go to Vietnam/Cambodia/Laos to see th real proper asia. See if you can get one or more of them in on your trip. There is some chat about this in the random thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=66470548#post66470548

Yeah the only problem with Vietnam is it takes over or close to 24 hours to get to and tbh, I had looked into it and do want to go, but just not right now. If I had that sort of flexibility with time off work then who knows. Next summer is another option.
For now though Malaysia and Singapore will follow.

Hopefully you get to meet up with your friend in the coming months though, sounds good.
That link leads to a camera site, I suppose though I need a decent camera too before I go :)

Keeping an eye on this thread also. Heading to Bangkok tomorrow then on to Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia before heading down to Southern Thailand.
Wouldn't mind hitting up a few "proper" clubs in Bangkok before we get off the beaten track.

Sorry pasted wrong link. I'm after a camera myself after all my gear got nicked last year. I was planning on spending €1200 or so on a Canon 500D and a really nice lens, but the boys over at the photography forum have pointed me to this little beauty that does an unbelievable amount for the money... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qEVgz1H1ky8

That's a nice camera alright, how much is it going for? I was looking to spend 6 or so on one, I've only had the standard digi cameras up until now, fairly decent but need to change.

That's brilliant! 450 sounds good to me. It's sure to catch all the extra bits those shemales have to offer but I'll only share it with you, don't tell anyone else about it.

Remember they have similar licencing laws to Ireland, so the clubs close round 2am if i remember right ....

PS: dont bring any Red or yellow T shirts :-)

Cheers delop, remember Dubai was 3 and the place goes completely dead. Bit of a let down although in fairness this trips gonna be pretty physical too so it's maybe a blessing in disguise. Nice one for tshirt reminder too :o

No but generally with camera gear etc, ebay usually has the best deals.

www.froogle.co.uk is worth a look also though. Just watch out for ex vat prices, Hong Kong Sellers, or ripoff delivery which can take what looks like a good offer, much more expensive.

Some Hong Kong sellers will mark as gift or warranty return etc so you might get away without paying the import taxes..

I lived there for a while - there is bed superclub, q bar and another damn club that i frequented but its renamed now - its a techno club, usually a big dj on every week, check the forum at http://www.bangkokrecorder.com/

    enjoy

Note: in q bar and bed superclub - is where the ordinary decent but somewhat wealthier thais go, obviously theres a fairly big farrang presence there too, to get in,you will need to dress as you would if going out over here ==> funky:)

    enjoy!

oh yeah fcuk the full moon party - full of knobs!

Yeah I've often got things marked as gift from hong Kong. I think only once in all the years buying from eBay one guy charged extra for VAT. Will order this later,

hahaa, we were over there last year... was great fun, a lot of sleazy stuff going on, but never usually IN the actual clubs/pubs... more so a lot of the seedy stuff will be out on the streets...

the islands is DEFINITELY a lot better for nightlife than Bangkok itself... the city is so big that it a) takes ages to get to some club you think might be good and b) the tuk tuk or taxi driver gets lost with you on the back of the make-shift car that you're sitting in the middle of a motorway stopping cars for directions at 4am for 2 hours! hahaha

but yeah, saying that, if you ARE in bangkok and looking for something a bit less commercial and less sleazy than the standard fare, there was one surprisingly good place we found on the Kohsan road. cant remember the name of it, but it was in a small door that's lit up all blue on the outside... might have had something to do with "the ocean" or something like that in the name.

but defo check out the islands. that's where its at. and go to Koh Phangan to the full moon/half moon/no moon raves. they're animal

see this man is one of the many reasons to avoid the full moon party, too ignorant/stupid to realise that you originally asked for clubs in Bangkok, then he suggests you should go to KSR (backpackers hub) which is nowhere near as unique as it was years ago!! this is not the real bangkok! its good for meeting fellow backpackers and partying for a day or so but as i already mentioned check out the clubs bed superclub, q bar, bangkok recorder for info, bangkok post - Bangkok is a wonderful city, i would go to the southern islands as opposed to samui phangnan too!!

    Cheers.

All pointers appreciated but in fairness I had a friend there who said he loved the islands too opposed to the city and he's been more than once. He would be of the more commercial approach to music I must admit but still :)

Our trip is not going to allow us too much time for partying in the thai capital so I'm thinking i may need to leave out their islands altogether until another time, just do the ones that are included on our trip. I thought the vids for the Bed club looked a bit weak but if you are recommending it then sure may as well have a bash. Only thing though, is the policy really that strict on the door? Not going to be bringing much in the way of jeans and shirt!

While we're at it though (may as well ask), any pointers for Singapore and Kuala Lumpur? If possible :pac:
