However I'd not at all be surprised if it only does MPEG2 on Tuner or doesn't support the correct H.264 profile for SD TV on Saorview.

    Nor will it do MHEG5.

I suspect that by the Autumn you'll get better value boxes with Saorview Logo (i.e. you know it works before you buy it).

I don't think it's that cheap for a single tuner external storage box.

I think you're jumping the gun a bit there, one of the logos is clearly TNT HD which as we all know is DVB-T MPEG4.

    Missed the logo.

    :(

    I should have clicked Zoom.

Still, I think it's worth waiting 4 or 5 months now to get something 100% compatible. It's not like there is a reliable service or all the channels yet.

i came across it purely because i am looking for a cheap hdmi output media player that plays MKV files. Just thought it was cheap, especially that it had a dvbt tuner in as well!

Only thing it lacks is a network terminal!

Just wondering. What's the risk in buying one of these now versus waiting until late this year until saorview is formally available? I've been looking into switching from sky to freesat / saorview. I have looked into buying the right boxes eg this one and a good freesat box like the one in the link below (interesting, the price dropped 20% in the last week).

I would be interested in any feedback or thoughts anyone might have.

PS - anyone know of someone good to fit an aerial in the Limerick City area? Do you even need an external aerial for DTT in a good coverage area?

you wont get TV3 at the moment on the DTT trial, but thats no great loss. If your looking to get both freesat and DTT a combi box is the best option. I recently brought a Edision mini 2 in 1 for the bedroom, great piece of kit for the price. Only thing is it wont play avi files via a usb stick, but im hoping and wishing that a firmware upgrade may come soon providing this!

What's the rush? Enjoy the Weather.

Urlan TV, if they are still about.

I've no van, no ladders and no public liability insurance.

Unless your window has a clear view of Woodcock hill (near Golf ball), you need an external aerial in the City.

I do have clear view @ nearly 13km, and an indoor aerial is rubbish on Analogue and poor on DTT. I have an outdoor aerial.

    John G,

    Declared interest 1st - I sell TV/Hifi :)

That Sagemcom box (as you may know already ) is only Freesat HD - it won't help you out regards your Freeview/Saorview channels at all - but it is an excellent product and we have sold loads of them already to Boardies and the quality & especially the menus are really superb.

On the Aerial query - you could try Tony at Satellite.ie - he is a good Boardie and whilst he is based in Dublin - I understand that he has a network of installers and I'm sure he could point you in the right direction for a reputable installer.

Thanks again and drop me a line if I can assist in any way,

    ATB,
