How to sell physical gold or silver

I've read many posts about how to buy gold or silver, but nobody seems to talk about how you sell it.
Say I bought some gold coins or silver and decided I wanted to sell them next week, I've no idea what is the way that gives me the best return? (closest to spot after transaction costs)

Has anyone here got some gold or silver holding that they sold before, how did you do it?

Guys this kind of concerns me....who first gave people here the idea that buying physical gold/silver is a good idea?

I realise your asking how to sell physical amounts but in my opinion buying ETFs is a superior investment decision and simple to get out of

Thanks for the reply but I hope this thread doesn't go off topic, I really don't want to end up debating the merits of physical over shares etc..

if you buy from gold.ie you can sell it back to them. If you have perth mint or a goldmoney.com account you can buy/sell.
Otherwise you can go to a coin show and sell gold there for smaller amounts. I've done most of above at one time or another.

I don't know about Irish banks, but an bank over here (Switzerland) will happily buy or sell you physical gold, usually in bars but often in coins as well.

A friend from Dublin bought an American Gold Eagle 1/2 OZ as a wedding present when he was over here a few months ago.

Where could you buy such gold coins here in Ireland?

    Sorry I have no idea....

I suppose you could alway hop on a cheap Aer Lingus flight to Zurich or Geneva and pick some up if you wanted.

Then stick them in a safety deposit box over here and no one will be any the wiser about them ;)

PS: Others currently on sale here include:
    - Krugerrand
    - Canadian Gold Maple Leaf
    - Vreneli
    - Napoleon
