Volvo S40 Driver door won't lock

    Hello,

2000 S40 Volvo with central locking, alarm, immobiliser and key fob.

When locking doors, manually or with fob, all doors appear locked, but drivers door will still open when you lift the door handle.

On the other doors, the "buttons" go up and down as the doors unlock and lock respectively, but the drivers door button does not.

    Has anyone experienced this problem?
Would rather not go directly to dealer, as thay charge €120 per hour in labour!!!

    Thanks.

If the button and lock doesn't move when you lock/unlock with key it seems the mechanism has become unhinged, the key should always work as it manually turns the mechanism.

Try removing the door card and have a look? It's not very hard.

I'd guess the door switch may be at fault

The car thinks the drivers door isn't closed so it doesn't lock.

No need to go to a main dealer.

Any decent mechanic should be able to sort this out if you don't feel up to doing it yourself.

door wont lock eh...? just give me your address and I'll pop round bout midnight....

sounds like a simple fault, a bad connection at the solenoid or a wire off maybe,,have a fiddle..sometimes works wonders and saves €€€€

Thanks for all the replies gents.

Will be pulling the door cover off today.

A bit of googling led me to a common failure being the door lock solenoid, which apparently is not available for seperate purchase from the door lock mechanism.

    Will post my findings.

Well I don't know if the fix is permanent, but replacing the key fob battery seems to have solved the issue.

The drivers door knob is raising and lowering as it should, and the door is locking properly.

I think that the cars door lock circuit may have been "confused" by a weak signal coming from the fob, which left it in an unknown state as to whether the door was locked or not. A google search shows that his circuit has been known to fail.

Anyway, it's working for now. Cost to "repair" - €3.20 (bloody expensive CR 2016 batteries!!
