Driving The Ball and The Price Of Golf

    Hi all,

I thought I'd stick two threads I was going to create into one so as not to clutter the forum:

I've recently started playing more often, and have got quite good with my Irons, however, I cannot hit the ball with my Driver/Woods at all.

What happens is I do the same thing I do when I hit my Irons and I always end up missing the ball and looking like a complete twat.

Would any of you have any advice on what could be wrong with my technique?

Secondly, I just want to comment on the price of Golf. I'd like to play more, but haven't really got the money to pay what I think is a very high cost. I bought my clubs some time ago, so I have them, but the cost of the apparel, membership, equipment etc is extremely high IMO.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi,
Golf has never been cheaper to play most clubs have green fees for around €20 either early or late, Cloths can be have for next to nothing polo and pants in pennys for less than 20 quid. With no Joining fee most clubs if u pay around a 1000 for membership and play twice a week for the year it works out at a tenner a round or around 2.50 a hour what else can u do for 2.50 a hour?

Don't buy new balls. Ask around and you'll find guys selling 2nd hand balls they've found. When I first started I spent time every week looking for balls (mostly in the right hand rough after a society had played).......I never needed to buy any balls.

If you miss the ball with your woods then you are doing something badly wrong. Without seeing your swing I'd suggest you go along to a group lesson where a pro could give you some advice.

I'm actually considering not joining my club next year and perhaps join a club with cheap distance membership and then just pay green fees.
The disparity between golf subs and green fees is now too wide.
There are open competitions on almost every day from March-October ,the main golfing season and I think I will enjoy it more playing different courses and it will end up costing me less.

I've been playing golf since I was a youngster not to bad at it now.

I rearly buy new golf stuff, ebay loves golf. Bought an excellent driver second hand for €80 (RRP in Ireland €250), I buy lake balls (second hand balls) nearly as good as new on ebay for less than €1 per ball. I have a few good tee shirts I ware in competitions rest of the time I use tee shirts I buy in lifestyle for €15-20. There are many clubs espically now offering good prices, ring them as I've found some are a fair bit lower than the website says, they just haven't updated it recently.

In terms of your woods, very hard to judge without seeing you, but i suggest you start off your swing slowly, many people who fresh air using wood tend to be going for a big shot and swing very fast to hit it full on. Slow down make sure ur back swing takes you about 2-3 seconds to get to the top, when you start hitting it, you can speed up more.
