    Hi,

I got a HKC alram installed with a dialler that uses the land line to txt me if the alarm is going off. We also have broadband in the house, however the electrician never installed a splitter.

I have a new Eircom broadband splitter (phone socket type) with the inputs for phone and modem.

Does anyone know a good eletrician in the Clontarf area in Dublin who could install the splitter for me? I don't want to use the original electrician.

How much would it cost to install same?

    Thanks...

The alarm panel should have the phone line before the modem and have a filter fitted which is designed for alarm systems. That way it cuts the phone line when sending a text but it won't disrupt the DSL.
They cost €20-€30. Fitting cost would depend if any wiring is needed to give the alarm line seizure.

Thanks. Can you recommend an electrician in the Clontarf area/near clontarf who could do it?

I thought it could cause "noise" on the line if a filter wasn't fitted and that could affect the broadband? Is a splitter really necessary?

To do it right yes. I have checked lines before and after these are fitted. Have never had any issues.
PM me if you want me to take a look at it for you.

It is very easy to install this type splitter providing the line going to the alarm is where your main phone line is. The attachment koolkid provided is the type most alarm installers use and is the best one on the market. It is installed in your alarm panel making any line in the house from the alarm ok for where you want to put the modem. €30 is exactly what you would be charged to fit your splitter providing you have priority over the other phone lines in the house.
