Tountinna trails

    Hi all,

I have recently moved out to the Ballina/Killaloe area and with Tountinna being so close I am constantly being tempted to explore.

I have done the normal trails from bottom to top etc, but have been keen to try the trails leading off both sides. I have checked the waymarked ways and cannot see any details on them of the smaller trails leading off Tountinna.

I followed one this evening a bit of the way and it seems to head over to the Millenium cross. Has anyone done this stretch? How far would it be in km if it has been done? Does it cross any public roads? I have my two dogs with me on any walks I'm on so would need to consider that. If it did go as far as the millenium cross, does it go further on past there? As we are thinking of parking one car down there and another halfway up Tountinna and going from one to the other and then driving back for the second car.

There's another similar trail heading in the opposite direction, I think this must be the one to head towards Castlelough woods? (which i have explored recently)

IF anyone has done these trails and can shed some light on the length and places to park up on the other end or maps of them anywhere to download, I'd be very grateful :)

Can't be a whole lot of help but I did walk to the Millenium Cross from the road. It's probably only a coulple of km out to the cross and as far as I can remember, you can't go any further than the cross. The cross itself is massive and to be honest, I got a bit spooked when I got out there. i always find structures like that very unnerving (particularly that cross on the top of Brandon Hill)..

Nice shots, I've walked up to the millenium cross a few times, it's pretty impressive. Though having said that, I'd prefer an old ruin to explore :D

The view from Tountinna yesterday evening

I think we'll just head on down the trail one day when we are out there early and see where we end up :D
