All lower incisors missing

I had my 5 lower incisors knocked out when I was 16. Have had the same plastic dentures since (gumstrippers my dentist recently called them- cos they are apparently responsible for canine gums receding quite a bit).

    Dentist suggested cast iron dentures.

Would implants & bridge be a better solution?
How many implants would need to be needed?

What sort of cost would I be looking at?

    Thanks
    P

First of all there are only 4 lower incisors in humans.
Your dentists probably offered a cast cobalt chromium denture. You could also maybe have a titanium denture.
Implants and a bridge would be more expensive but a better option, but you need a certain amount of bone in that area in order to have implants placed. You could ask your dentist for an opinion on this option or to refer you to a specialist.

+1 on what Big G said, but dependent on your bite and the condition of the canines a 6 unit bridge ( resin or conventional) may be an option if you don't have the bone, finances, time for implants.

Your family dentist will know all the options and can advise you best.

Thanks for the enlightenment... so what I'm missing is actually my 4 lower incisors plus bottom right canine. Also on the bottom left the 3rd molar is gone.

I'll be speaking to my dentist next week, and will probably go with the easy option of the cast cobalt. I'm only 42 though... maybe should consider the bridge if I can afford it.

A lot of gum has receded from the existing canine... so I can't imagine that's ideal in terms of what could be attached to it. If I go for a bridge I would need impants as well wouldn't I?

    Thx P
