I personally just don't think the suburbs is a place for a casino.

I'm sure plenty will stagger over from the Shanty and spend the rest of their pay packet there.

I don't see what's wrong with it. Firstly it's providing employment and secondly it's keeping some people away from trouble.

Nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

Don't see a problem with it either. Keeps people off the streets, jobs and money to the area. No bother.

I think D15 has enough problems without worrying about a casino.

A casino is no worse than a Bookies, or even a pub!

Is there a bar in it?

Casinos work as a tax on poor and stupid people.

The engine room of the casion, where all the real money is made for the owners, is the slots. There they can set them to pay out whatever % of the money put into them they want. The owners will also empty them out frequently or when they are nearing a big payout. Punters get caught up in them and even though they know they cannot win, they just keep shovelling money into them. they are highly addictive.

On a roulette table, on the other hand, at least you can see what odds you have of winning at a glace. It's a pure game of chance, but because the casino can go on for as long as it takes, and has a maximum amount you can bet at any time, they will always win in the long run.

If you win too much money through your own skill at blackjack, they throw yoiu out and bar you from all the casions. Talk about rigging things in their favour.

We`need a casino with slots in Ireland like we need a hole in the head.We have enough problems already

Tell that to the family of the bread winner who has just spent his weeks pay packet in the casino.

What makes a bookies or a pub a positive amenity for an area?

Because after a long week of working, i like to relax at the weekend. And sometimes i like to relax by going to the pub and have a nice drink!

And while i'm there, the football may be on. And myself and the lads might think it would be enjoyable to put a bet on the football to make it more interesting.

    Simples!

You can't get rid of something because it makes irresponsible people be irresponsible. Just because some stupid fecker gambles the family income. They're the minority, this discussion really shows this country's Joe Duffy culture, "Oh thats bad, lets campaign to get rid of it!"

It's not the casino's fault that he/she is an irresponsible idiot.

Thats the casino's fault? If this is how we want things to go we should shut down everything that sells anything in Ireland !

People are addicted to shopping /alcohol / smoking / internet / exercising /porn etc.

We should turn off the internet in this case that would cut most of the above and maybe also close all shops as they may sell cigs and alcohol and clothes.

someone i know used to work in casino regulation in a different country. from everything i've heard through pop culture, but more importantly, from someone who had to file reports about crime in and around casinos, i'd be worried; they seem to be magnets for crime, both organised and spontaneous.

There are casinos in Dublin City and I am fine with that.

I don't think casinos should be in residential areas. I am fairly disgusted that one has opened in D15.

    Hi all

Parkside card club here just to let you all know that there is nothing wrong with us its a private members card club so id say most of you have never been in one, we do not have slots , all tables in there are live , we hold tournaments 7 nights a week, the most you would spend is 35 euro and two nights a week its free. We have a biometrics system in there and can trace all players action, the average spend is 50 to 100 per player and its 50 % chance of all members winning and us losing. These clubs never bring trouble in all the years iv been playing ,and no we dont get the shanty crowd in its not that sort of place they would like to go to, most of our memebers that come in dont drink, so 90% of the people through the door are sober and can sit down at a table for as little as 25 euro and have 5 hour of fun so whats wrong with that nobody has ever came in and spent a weeks wages you just dont know what your talking about

Where I'm coming from is that, a number of years back, there was a plan to build a major casino and conference centre on the site of the old Pheonix Park Race Course.

We had all the bull about how it would create jobs etc. and the plan was backed by some major politicians. Eventually it hit the rocks. The organisers were unwilling to go ahead unless they could have a floor of slot machines, which they described as, the engine room of the project.

I havn't been to this casino yet but I will eventually make a trip down.

I don't see the probem with casino's at all. What's the difference between a casino and a bookies? I can't see one but I don't see the people that are against casinos complaining about all the bookies beside every pub or shop.
I can control my gambling and if others can't why should I be punished because of their weaknesses.

The same could be said of everything addictive. I can control my heroin, cocaine, so why should I be punished by not being freely able to buy and use it.

People normally only become addicted to something they like. They try it and it feels good. I'll have some more of that. I can control it. I'm not an addict. I can give it up any time, etc

Do you honestly think the junkies, winos, prostitutes, down and outs etc. said to themselves "I think I'll try this and then I'll become addicted to it and let it rule my life so that I can think of nothing else except where I can get my next fix". The fix also includes legalised drugs alcohol, tabacco, prescription medicine. Very few people would start anything in the first place if they knew how difficult it was going to be to give it up

Your right we should ban pubs as well as plenty of people spend money there that should be spent elsewhere, people can also become alcoholics so maybe we should just do away with alcohol.

Now that I think of it cars kill a lot of people as well......

I haven't been to parkside yet but will probably head down at somestage.

So your quarell isn't with the Casino per se, it is with everything addictive?

If you think people should be kept away from gambling for their own good, then let's ban the internet! It's not as if you can gamble on the internet

My little sister is addicted to Facebook, let's ban that! My brother drinks a load of Coca Cola, let's ban that!

I'm addicted to watching "The Wire", man, we gotta ban it! In fact, let's ban TV altogether just in case!

Have you ever stepped foot inside a casino? Many a night i have decided to go to a casino to play one of the poker tournaments instead of going out for a regular "Night out". This has resulted in a much more enjoyable night and me spending a fraction of what i would normally spend in a nightclub.

Believe it or not, i haven't once remortgaged my house to bring to the casino. I've never lost the shirt off my back. I am a responsible adult and can take care of myself without Joe Duffy telling me what i should and shouldnt do!
