Nissan Almera 1.5 growl on accel

    Hi all,

I've searched around, but google returns too much toss to be helpful. My Dad has a second hand 2006 Nissan Almera, bought a year ago. It sometimes makes a funny grrr noise on acceleration from stop - ie: at low speed and revs - that can best be described as a growl  It's very brief, like about 1 second as you pass through the range.

Any ideas? I'm hoping to God it's not the gearbox diff bearings or something equally horrible.

The tires are slowly losing pressure as well (over a week or two) which makes me wonder if it's related.... It's back at the dealers today and my Dad has just said something about them wanting to replace the drive belt. €120 they want. They can spin on it. I replaced the belt on my GM Cavalier (in the US) and it's about the easiest thing you can do, even if the tensioner does want to drag the wrench and you into the engine compartment. Belt was about $20.

    Cheers!

Growl on open throttle can be exhaust or intake... is either leaking or blocked?

Tyres deflating... corroded alloys, slow puncture or worn valves.

if the engine is over revving on acceleration its possible the clutch is worn and its slipping thus the engine revving higher before the clutch engages.

Hmmm. Thanks. I think the tires could most likely be worn valves alright. Although corroded alloys are a possibility. Maybe if they're corroded the tires won't sit perfectly.

The growl I don't really know about, but it's possible it is a vibration from the exhaust alright. I guess I'll just wait until it gets worse and then maybe I can identify it. Driving down the road with someone in the engine compartment is probably not on :o

Block the end of the exhaust with the palm of your hand and if you hear a whooshing noise there is a leak. Simples

    Hello:
I really need help with this.
I have this Nissan almera 2005 1.5 SE Petrol hatchback. It makes weird growling or groaning noise I take off from the dead stop. Noise goes away after car gets hot.
I thought it's my clutch but my clutch is working fine and this sound comes only when I press mild gas on while holding the clutch on the biting point.
Also strange thing is noise is not there when I take off the car without pressing gas, sure car takes off slower but noise only comes when I press gas and release the clutch slowly. Noise goes away when clutch is released completely. Noise is not there in the reverse gear either. Only first gear.
I read about throw out bearing but if it's bearing then noise should always be there. I tried to give as much information as I could.

    Please help

Release bearing or throwout bearing will only usually make noise as the clutch is disengaged.
You'll hear it if you leave the car out of gear and press the pedal down.
It may also come across during launch as a slight vibration in the clutch.

Don't be resurrecting old threads and make your own :)

You say the noise goes away once the car warms up.

    Is it clutch judder perhaps?

No car takes off smoothly even though there is a noise. There is no shaking or judder.
