Two holidays in one - Any ideas?

My hubby and I want to go away next year - he will be "celebrating" a significant birthday and would rather run away than throw a party!!
Anyway, we are totally opposed on our ideas of a holiday. He wants to do something different like climbing a mountain or walking in the jungle etc!
I have never even gone camping and nothing less than 5* will suit me!!
Okay - slight exaggeration but you get the idea!
I've told him I would be happy to hang around in a hotel on my own for a few days if he wants to go off to do his thing! I just think that a holiday should be relaxing as we spend the rest of the year running all over the country (for family reasons). I'd like to visit sights and see a different country/culture but nothing too active!

We have a little boy who we will leave at home with his granny so it should be something a bit special as God knows if we'll ever get to do it again.
Any ideas on where to go and what he can do?
    Thanks.

Nile cruise in egypt? See the temples/sights and relax and sunbathe on the boat in between

Ye sound a bit like me & my girlfriend. Although I'd not really be into climbing mountains, I'd prefer to do more than just sitting by a pool all day. My girlfriend could spend hours on end on a sunbed, no bother.
We hope to go to the Maldives next year. I'd spend a lot of my time doing water sports (snorkeling, wind surfing, kayaking, water skiing, jet skis - different islands have different things) & she's going to do nothing but relax. Not sure if that would be active enough for your fella though, not a mountain in sight!

Thanks a million. Forgot to mention that I'm terrified of water so I'm not sure if a cruise would be the best idea!! :o But thanks for the replies!

Tanzania, hiking for him, safari for you?

God, i don't envy you - me & my other half are always in the same boat :p I like more urban with a little bit of activity whereas he wants to get away from shops & would spend all day doing water sports. It makes planning a holiday extremely difficult.
We've debated Switzerland - Luekerbad in particular - a few times as there would be plenty of spas etc. to keep me happy & as much walking/cycling/swimming as could keep himself happy. Worth a look maybe?

I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for sure, might get some ideas myself for later on in the year!

Florida is great for 2 centre holidays. Spend a few days maybe 5 in Orlando area and do the parks etc. and then head off to any of the main places like Tampa, Miami or Fort Lauderdale and enjoy some beach time, nightlife and take a trip to the everglades which may tickle your husbands fancy.

Thanks Buzz - if you get any ideas yourself - please feel free to pass them on!! ;)
And thanks 24hrs - went to Florida before but only realyl stayed in Miami so somewhere like Tampa or the Keys could work. Someone else suggested China and we could climb the Great Wall!!

How 'bout Turkey? You could spend a night or two in Cappadocia, hiking around the amazing sites, a few nights on the beach, and cap it all off in Istanbul. Also, the great outdoors doesn't have to be all rough and tumble, sleeping in a dodgy tent, and using a giant hole in the ground as a toilet. There are plenty of 5 star tenting/camping experiences, where you can tramp around with a guide (porters if necessary) during the day, and then live it up in luxury during the night. I know some safari outlets do that, and I'm sure lots of other adventure holidays offer the same.

Alternatively, you could go somewhere like Dahab on the Egyptian Red Sea. I stopped off a few years back and it was amazing. It's really laid back and easy going, just down the road from some big resorts but its nothing like them. Has a really cool vibe, and there's amazing reef diving or snorkling. There's a nice balance between just relaxing, and shopping etc. Also, for hubby, he could do desert treks, by foot, horse, or sand buggie, and stay in a Beudoin tent for the night. Or climb Mt Sinai which isn't too far away. So plenty to keep you both occupied! If you were feeling particularly adventurous, you could travel up to Petra for a day or two and catch the Dead Sea on the way. Godammit, just writing bout it is making me want to go back!!

I like the idea of the 5* camping experience on safari! I might look into that. Cheers!

South Africa? You could stay in Capetown for a few nights (the V&A Waterfront area) he could climb Table Mountain and you could relax by the pool and then you could move on to do a Safari or some beautiful drives through The Winelands or the Garden Route.
Another possiblity is do Capetown and then go on to Mauritus.

A combination closer to home is Croatia. You could stay in Dubrovnik for a city and beach holiday or stay in one of Croatia's Islands and then move on to Montenegro although I wouldnt be quite sure where to stay for mountain climbing in Montenegro but i think it is quite mountainous.
