I've been using boards for about a year now. Find it the most useful, informative & entertaining site on the net...I came here originally because I had a problem that I posted in PI. Then I replied to a few other peoples threads who had similar problems....I'd about 400 posts on the my old name.

But I found I was being 'identified' by my username. Not by outsiders, but by fellow 'boardsies'....I felt I'd moved past my 'problem' (I have, I swear...:D) and it was vaguely mentioned in more recent replies I gave to others...stuff I'd said a year ago was brought up (in a subtle way, but it was obvious that whoever replied, had 'read other posts by X')

So I'm reinventing myself - don't feel like I need help with any more PI's..and I've changed my name.

Am I a complete paranoid schizo or have other boardies done this.....???

Bit too much drama there OP.

From my understanding of it user's of PI have the option of not using their regular boards.ie username.

For all that, when I became Mod on the Martial Arts forum I changed my username to better reflect my love of Judo & martial arts.

But even now a lot of people still refer to my old username 'Mairt', it has a ring to it - probably shudda kept it now that I think of it.

I didn't realise u didn't have to register for PI at the start....
Created a username that kinda reflected my issue at the time....
Haven't given anything away here....Bit of an overreaction on my part then?

I just thought alot of people would get new names here....

I don't post in PI but i see why you changed your name. Some people lose an argument with others so then check through their posts for dirt.

Never changed my name though, except when I originally registered it was under a different name. Left boards for a while, hadn't a clue of my original login details and made this account with this name... then got it merged.

Yeah I can see your point OP.....the only thing that annoys me about boards is that if you do a search for your name on google all your posts come up.....suppose I just don't like people knowing me too much but if they go back over your posts and comments you can really learn a lot about a person!:eek:

I'd say quite a few users abandon accounts as they go or have a few on the run at any time. Personally, I prefer the permanence of identity that you get from someone's posting history, which is why I don't like when people change their username.

When in the forum, most of the area on the left is thread titles and infrmation, with a section on the right with the time and poster of the last post. When you pot, the section on the righ takes up more than half my screen! ( Although I am using a 10.1'' screen).

Looks like I'm not alone so!

I changed my name because in my orig post on boards, I had an 'issue'. My username was my 'issue'. For pig-iron, let's say my 'issue' was that I had a fetish for cycling when naked. My username was 'nakedcycler'. This is hypothetical, of course.

So fittle means nothing, demonstrates no emotion and I'm gonna run with it...and see how far I get.;)
