Dublin v rest of Ireland

Where do you stand on this divide?

In most countries there is a North v South or East v West cultural divide of some kind usually based on prosperity/business being concentrated in one part of a land.

In the Republic of Ireland there is no real class or regional divide, but there is of course a Dublin v the rest divide. Now of course, hostility towards a capital city is not unique to Ireland and is quite a common phenomenon throughout Europe. But in Ireland it is quite intense as Dublin has such a large proportion of the population and there is so much difference in population between the first city and the second/third/fourth etc, indeed all the other cities combined don't even match up to half the capital's population. What is also unique to Ireland I think is that those located very close to Dublin, be it Kildare or Wicklow or wherever or also very much against the capital city. Furthermore the Dubs are equally as resentful towards those outside it's boundaries as the non-Dubliners are to it. Of course the only difference is the Dubs have more a feeling of condescending pride whereas the outsiders have a sense of indignation, maybe even envy towards what they view as the unfair balance of power and resources in the land which they feel is unfairly and disproportionally weighted in the Dubs favour but do the logistical realities on our land allow any other possibility.

Now that I have waffled away for a while, let me give my opinion. I have found most Dubs to be ignorant morons with a complete lack of humility and a rather warped sense of Irishness, they diss most of the people on our land (non-dubs) as "culchies" yet proudly proclaim themselves to be the most patriotic of Irishmen. I say we wall up the Pale again and cut them lose, let them float off towards the Isle of man and preach how wonderful they are to each other in blissful isolation. That way they'll be happy and we'll be happy.

    Agreed?

    Agreed?

Clare man, Mayo man and Galway man find a magic lamp. Clare man rubs the lamp and out pops Genie. We'll have a wish each lads, it's fair that way says Clare man. What wish can I grant you Clare man? says Genie, Jesis I'd love a fine motorway up to Croker to watch the banner play. Out rolls a fine new motorway all the way from Ennis to Dublin. Mayoman what wish can I grant you? Well, Mayo is so perfect, so beautiful, so absolutely serene, and the people are the best, you just won't find better anywhere so I'd love if you'd build a wall a mile high and three miles deep around the entire county so we can keep it that way. Up sprouts the biggest wall you've ever seen around all of Co. Mayo, dwarfs the Great wall of China from space. Now, last wish, Galwayman, what wish can I grant you? Mmm, what did that Mayoman wish for again? And the Genie reminds him in great detail about Mayo and it's fine wall a mile high and three miles deep. Grand job, says Galwayman, that's what I thought he said...

    Fill it with water.

    (Yup, I'm good with that :D )

    Wha!?!

What about the "Republic of Corkonia"?

Its always the same, theres rivalry throught the country...people from the sticks are just jealous of our power & smugness.

    Dub 4 life!

One thing that amazes me is that i can safely say a very large proportion of the people who live in Dublin arent Dubs, same goes for those that work in the capital. Are they resentful as we "culchies" get the jobs while so many of their lot get to claim the dole and live in places like Ballymun and Lower sheriff street???

    I'm from Dublin, but I'll admit...it's a stinkhole.

That doesn't make it any different from most other places in this country though.

The first part of your post was fine, reasonable & well put.

The bit I quoted above however, is either just based on pure ignorance or designed purely to rile up another pointless Dublin v the rest AH warzone.

Either way, I'm staying well clear. I'm off to watch the end of "Jennifers Body" & will leave you with this thought... to me, Megan Fox is the American upgraded version of Stacey Slater.

The OP is tight about Dubliners being the most patriotic. Where were the boggers in '16?

The fact is that the Greater Dublin Area is the economic driving force of our country and all we get is boggers electing mongs like Lowry, Cooper-Flynn and Healy Rae.

As soon as any bogger TD is caught on the take, the locals rally round and simply blame the Dublin "meeja".

Imo it's time for Dublin to cut itself off from the rest and see how they survive on their own.

Areas surrounding Co. Dublin can have referanda on which side they wanna take. That's north Kildare, north Wicklow, some parts of Meath, and we'll have a think about Drogheda.

To the rest, slan and enjoy your poverty free from those horrid jackeens who foot the bill for your crap like the Western Rail Corridor. :D

There's a lot of Dublin v Culchies here and most of it is tingue in cheek, a bit of craic.
It can be slightly disturbing at times though when you actuall y see some genuine hatred creep in, people who would thread on egg shells aroud different races but genuinely believe that someone 50 miles down the road, who could very well be a 3rd cousin, is a thick ignorant ill informed wanker for the reason that they dont live in the same place as they do.

the same people never ventured too far from their home though, whether that be in a town or in the sticks.

In fairness, for all the bs it's not a bad little country and if you can't enjoy both urban and rural then it's your bloody problem and you're losing out for the simple fact that both have miultitudes to offer.
And if you think that people form either enviroment are all, whatever, then you're a narrow minded gombeen destined to be a miserable bastard for all eternity :)

A gaff in the city and the sticks ftw!

And it is a prven fact that city chicks are hotter in the bog and bogger chicks are hotter in the city so maybe we should all congrgate in the midlands (not Athlone) and celebrate this :pac:

Only people from the the bog think there is any rivalry/animosity between Dublin and the rest of the country.

Hate to break it to you chumps, but people in Dublin never think about Mitchelstown or Athy or.....Inisboffin or any other solid fuel burning wilderness.

It's all just in your heads as you gather around the stew pot singing rebellion songs.

Thats a load of nonsense in fairness, there's gombeen politicians wherever you go, dublin included. And if you're talking about 1916, go read a book. It was in dublin yes...

Well, as a non-dub, one thing i've noticed about male dubs is that many of them seem to have the exact same haircut; i presume they all go to the same barber.
I would assume this barber is a true blue dub himself and is a proficient practitioner of the salt of the earth 'dub wit' we all know and love.

Well there you went and referred to the other 3/4's of the population as a collective 'bog' :D but yeah, there's no animosity...

nonsense thread will attract nonsense arguments, mine own included

It's not like other members of "their lot" can't get the good jobs "culchies" specifically move to Dublin for.
