From my experience a receiver that turns off has a hardware fault or corrupt flash , u should return it for a replacement or refund. My advice would be get a refund since its the second one but if you opt for a replacement make sure you mark your STB to make sure your not just getting it back reflashed.

    Hi,
I have 8 of these units, and they ALL have the same problem, I got them for every room based on their features and spec.
I initially thought it was the signal being to strong for RTE (Clarmount Carn isi only 4 miles from my location) so fitted and attenuater on the line (12db) but that made no difference.
If you let it reboot 3-4 times it usually stays working on RTE but the audio is out of sync by around 2-3 seconds so its unwatchable.

I emailed and also rang Philex on +44 901 293 0038 and got someone who had not a clue about the unit on the phone and also no reply to my emails, they just seem to resell items and have no means to support the product.

I was hopeing that a new firmware would fix the issue, as apart from MPEG4 (Irish DTT) causing it to reboot and the audio sync issue with everything else its fine, I get good freeview and it works perfect with this including EPG data and having the USB drive it works great as a DVR allowing pause and resume, and also record one channel and watch another using timeshift.

But the main reason I for these units was for MPEG4 and they just don't work corrrectly and no mention of any new firmware to address the issue, my supplier replaced a single unit twice but no difference.

If you get a solution please let me know.

    Thanks

mabey you right, but if i was the flash it would reboot on all channels but i wont give up yet, but thanks for your reply.

Does anybody know how to convert or play the DVR files that are recorder to the USB memory stick?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,178 ✭✭✭STB

Mt Leinster is a dtt transmission site - it wont tell your box to reboot!

Continuous rebooting is a hardware/bad firmware fault. Who is selling this rubbish and how much are they charging!

The satellite versions of those boxes had the same problems!!!

    And this was the solution.

Go to System Setup menu screen > TV System Setup

    Change the seetings so that
    Display Mode = Auto
    Video Output = CVBS

<Menu button> to save and exit.

    Playback etc of DVR files

    TsDoctor

    http://www.cypheros.de/dvb_e.html

It will convert the file (or join multiple DVR files) and output the file(s) to a single .TS which will play fine in VLC (free and best media player out there). Loads of programs will burn a TS to DVD if you want to that as well.

However recording off Satellite I find sound & video is in sync playing back on PC, but when converting from TS to PS and either playing DVD data or authored DVD video with VOB, the sound is out of sync, even varies sync.
    I've tried various solutions.

I am having the same reboot problems with the Triax TR110 reciever. Seems to happen a lot more on rte 2, rarely seems to happen on rte 1. Also when used initially or from a factory reset bits of subtitles appear every few seconds, fixed by turning subs off. Not something you should have to do as subs are not on in the first place :). I wonder are both this reciever and the skyline made (badly :D) by the same manufacturer?

H264 TS files ? Are they HD or just encapsulated MPEG2 - SD recordings ?

Have you tried VideoRedo ? Have you tried Applian ? Both allow for syncing in the event that is out.

Not even MPEG4 or HD. Just MPEG2.

Sync on playback can be ok and drift. It's not a fixed error. Strangely my original sat card in a P90 or P166 was fine... It's these newer cards. :)

I'll have a gander at those applications some time. But simply changing offset used on TS to PS conversion in PVAstrumento doesn't work as the offset seems to drift on DVD playback. Yet playback of the unconverted recording is fine. Using an application that records as PS instead of native TS and author to DVD doesn't work either.

the rebooting / subtitles issue with these receivers is being caused by the transmission and has to do with the subtitles - there is a temp update available for the triax also which turns off the subtitle and cures the problem - neither receiver have any problems with the uk mpeg2 so they are not badly made - when rte nl stop playing with the transmission all these hiccups will go away permanently ..... hopefully

The rebooting is caused by the subtitles ! The sat equivalent problems were caused by screen type chosen. More badly written firmware ??

I would expect any receiver that is MPEG4 H264 to be able to handle SD MPEG2! They do after all have to process MPEG4!

Boxes should not reboot regardless of what is broadcast in the transport stream! That is a technical fault either in the firmware or the hardware and has absolutely nothing to do with RTE.

RTE are broadcasting with MPEG audio and MPEG4 in standard definition at present with the flags set to 001 Digital Tv Service which is very basic. What will happen to those boxes when they start broadcasting in HD and start using higher quality audio codecs and flag set to 0x16.

Obviously the grey market is filling the gap at present in the absence of an official boxes, but basic operation outside MHEG5 is not an unreasonable expectation outside the published spec!

RET are definitley doing something non standard with digital subtitles as I have seen funny behaviour on a few boxes. This is something that should be straightforward.

That said no box should reboot from soemthing like this. Bad coding...

Any link to the Triax TR110 firmware ? Cannot find firmware anywhere. Anyone know who makes the triax reciever?(because its probably not triax :D)

I have just bought a Sky Line STB 400 decoder and the manual is very poor. Can any of you tell me what the "Jump" settings in the Record menu does??

Please follow site and charter rules. "Resistance is futile"

The Triax 110 is not suitable. It's not an HD receiver. It's incorrectly advertised as Irish Compatible. It's not and never was and never will be.

    The Skyline STB400?
    Is it this?

    That's a Satellite receiver

    Think it's this box http://cgi.ebay.ie/Saorview-Irish-Digital-Receiver-MPEG4-DVB-T-DTT-RTE-TG4-/200520803713?pt=UK_ConEle_SatCableFreeview_RL&hash=item2eaff8a581

I'm thinking of buying one,the record via usb would be handy plus I could play back movies I have stored on external hard drive through it on the second tv.
Question is,would it be worth the money and will it be futureproof regarding HD transmissions-I read on another thread that the Sagem picnic boxes aren't so don't want to splash out on a box that may be useless in the future.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,417 ✭✭✭✭watty

    No.
Not worth it and is not compatible. Same as a Picnic or Neotion CAM.

    Waste of money.

Report them to eBay. It's not Saorview certified or compatible

Thanks for that Watty-saved me a few bob there, was gona splash out on one tommorow but will hold off now.RTE is not essential for me anyhow, not much on it that I actually want to watch, more for the Missus really plus I'm a bit of a sucker for gadgets and the avi playback grabbed me.I'll just wait a while so until nearer official launch(probably cheaper ones out by then) to get a compatible stb.
