Great news for the people of Rush is that the long awaited new state of the art library is to open on Monday 12th July.

I would encourage anyone on here to pay it a visit it is magnificent what has been done to the building.
Just wonder if the spirit shown by the local community in recent times had anything to do with it?

Below is email I got from Michael Kennedy the other day

    cid:_1_05BDDE1005BDDA540030E8258025774A

    A Chara

Following my continued representations on this issue, I am delighted to advise you that Fingal County Council have confirmed that the new Rush Library will open on Monday 12th July 2010.

The library will initially open for 31 hours per week (the same as Skerries library), with a fuller service provided later in the year. I will continue to follow up on this issue and will keep you updated when I receive further information.

The new library will be a wonderful facility for all the people of Rush, old and young alike. I am very pleased that we now have a confirmed opening date at last and I look forward to the fuller service being rolled out later in the year.

I trust this information is of interest to you and please feel free to pass this email on to your other email contacts for their information. Should you require assistance in relation to other queries you may have, please fill out the section below and return.

    Yours Sincerely,
    cid:_1_05BE028405BE00300030E8288025774A

Skerries has, so a superduper place like Rush is bound to have it. I hear you can check out your books yourself. Worth getting the bus round for a look!

Rush Library will not have WIFI access when it opens.

It will have FREE Internet access on computers in the Library (as in all Fingal Libraries).

It is planned to roll out WIFI access in all Fingal Libraries in the future.

Paid a visit on saturday & what a library..you can take up to 10 items at one time..i reckon it must have been half empty that evening! Self service is the business too. Well worth a visit and the restoration job is fantastic. I see it was given a mention in the Irish Times magazine on saturday last as a place to visit if even only to see the building. A credit to all involved on this project.

Yes, the Self Service is a great success. Borrowers find it so easy to use and so quick!!!

The Self Service machines were delivered to Blanchardstown Library yesterday evening and are currently being installed.

We look forward to rolling out Self Service in this branch shortly!

Dropped into the library today and am wondering am i the only one who thinks everything is a bit cramped? Think it could have been laid out better and made the aisles a bit wider but other than that its fantastic. Hats off to Fingal co co.

Hitman79 I agree about it being cramped. Dropped in this morning and had the baby in his stroller and people had trouble getting by me. Theres so much space to use it could have been laid out better.
Other than that, its fab! Now I'm off to hury my head in books!

    Thanks for the photo Leo

was in the library last week have to say its brillant signed up with my eldest child for a library card , even checked the book out through the self service option , you can view your details on line too and even renew .

The girl there we dealt with was excellent.

I can see what some people meant about the upstairs not really being that big but its beautifully designed , its great for the town

I received an email through Skerries Community Association to say that as part of the National Heritage Week a talk will take place in Rush Library tomorrow evening.

The talk will be provided by Fionnuala May FCC Senior Architect and will detail the conversion of St Maur's from church to library.

I think I'll drop along there as I'd say it will be good.:pac:

Yeah. But only wanted to get a few of the building and the transformation that has taken place.

Acyually I think it might be against rules as there is usually a lot of kids around. Mind you I am off to a match now and if a kid gets in the shot its different. I just keep taking shots. Mind you I am P.R.O and most people dont mind.

Put back to future date as Nationwide were doing some extra programmes for "Age Action Week" so you will have to wait another while to see me on T.V. :)

In Library yesterday and it was very busy which is good to see. Never realised the amount of extra stuff that goes on in Fingal Library. They have a lot going on, Staff excellent and more than helpful

    ####Warning this Aint a joke or troll####

I agree with the above but as a person who has used libraries of all types over the years, I find it pretty hard to find books at times there. I know they have staff to help but I like to browse catergories but I find the classifications a bit strange. Maybe its just me.

Some of the books are mixed across catorgories, so you find them in strange areas. Upstairs is much better I find. Perhaps if they had a top 10 section of the top rented Library books in fiction and non-fiction.......

Hmm, well I haven't been in there yet but the Fiction would be alphabetically ordered by author and the Non-Fiction would be done according to the Dewey Decimal System, the same as all the other Fingal libraries. So I'm not sure what you mean by books mixed across categories. Do you mean that you've found stuff like travel books in with the business books, or something like that? Sorry, I don't mean to nitpick, I'm just unsure what you mean.

The staff are always open to suggestions so you should mention your Top 10 idea when you're in there.
