Changing sky+HD Box

I have a sky+hd box ...one of the first to come into ireland ..it may be about 5-6 yrs old. It has been giving alot of trouble lately..ie when you put 2 programmes in to record ...1 will only record ..the other will not which also results in no signal on any other channel.
If i plug the receiver out at night and leave till the morning it seems to reset itself . Also some of the recorded programmes will not play ...everything seems to freeze and you end up un-plugging.

I have been on to sky on a couple of occasions... they have told me a call out costs about 60 euros and since my receiver is out of warrenty i probally would need a new receiver.

Is there a way to reset the receiver by going through the programme menu or is there some site that can guide me through this process...i dont
want to spend 20 minutes with a sky rep telling me to do 'this' do 'that'
    so has anyone any ideas?
Also can you buy a SKY Receiver straight anywhere in ireland?

Can you buy any other type of receiver that has a slot to take a 'Sky Card.

    Thanks.

I have one of the older Sky HD boxes with component out as my TV is not HDCP compliant which means that one of the newer boxes is of no use to me for HD viewing.

From time to time I get the same problems as you. I usually either disconnect the power or do a planner rebuild - both reboot the box. To do a rebuild go to the TV menu and be sure the top menu is selected (TV Guide, Options, Planner, Anytime, etc) then press 0,0,1, select,7 and then press select to start the rebuild. The box will take almost 3 mins to reboot before you can turn it on but it should resolve your problem for a while. I had to do it tonight (no satellite signal being received) just as the Japan v Denmark match started and it's been grand since and probably will be for another week or two.

The best option is to get a newer box (eBay possibly) which will cost a few € or else cancel the sub and get a new sub using the another resident at your address.
