I have an Epson Perfection V500 Photo, and it's a really nice scanner.

The V700 has a lot more features than mine.. I'd expect it will do a great job.

if you're just looking for a few scans, and have that size requirement, it might be worth looking into getting them professionally scanned.

Just to let ye know that I got this scanner after, and it rocks, the quality is savage. However, it comes with a really basic version of Silverfast, and the upgrade costs about €210, which is a real sting: you really need Silverfast AI Studio to make the product work efficiently, and automate your workflow etc. That said, I now have an amazing "home studio" if you like, it is time consuming but you can leave the larger scans run during the night and wake up to cool images ;0)

    how does it handle colour?
i'm running provia through my canoscan 9900 and it's just depressing.

This scan is from Fuji Velvia 50 straight off the glass in 48-bit from my Epson Perfection V500 Photo, using Epson's standard software, with Digital Ice in "quality" mode at 3200dpi. (obviously convert to 8-bit, sRGB color profile, and saved as a JPG. [quality of 12, which is, in theory, lossless])
I didn't do any color or exposure correct etc.., except to change the default black & white points. (the default sets the black point and white point to cut off a lot of the data in highlights & shadows..and I HATE that.) It also defaults to considering a medium-dark grey to be black, and a medium-light grey to be white.. I max them out.. I want white to be white, and black to be black. Not great software, but it can give you a good scan.

cheers - i need to try my canoscan 9900f on win7, and if never the twain (i only realised how bad a pun that is) shall meet, i may have to invest in an epson.

    Long-lived model. I don't think you'll have any regrets. It's a good scanner. :)

i recently finally upgraded to win7, and that's incompatible with my ancient nikon coolscan III, so i decided to get something good and retire the nikon.
