Not sure if this is the right forum, so Mods please this to appropriate forum if necessary.

My Danish wife and I are moving back to Copenhagen after a few years living in Dublin and are looking at moving options (renting a truck, driving, purchasing a container, etc.) We've got enough stuff to fill a 2-bedroom apartment so we can't just fly it over unfortunately.

Does anyone have experience driving from Dublin to Copenhagen? About how long is the distance and how long does it take? Are there any websites that one would use for planning this sort of trip?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Having done a few long road trips in europe, we found this one very useful:
    http://www.viamichelin.com/
the economical option is very handy if you expect any tolls.

I have a Swedish friend who often drives back to Sweden via Denmark. I'm pretty sure she said that she usually took the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, but I can check if you want? A lot depends on whether you want to spend more time driving or sailing.

Indeed, and theres a Harwich to Esbjerg ferry (DFDS seaways) with a 3 1/2 hour drive after that, but the crossing is 18 hours.

Your saving about 8 hours going via the chunnel.

Ferry is a hell of a lot more relaxing though .. + the extra cost of tolls etc in France.

I don't mind taking the ferry, even though it is longer, it might be less hassle as I'd be able to stay away from driving through France, Belgium and Germany-right?

    Yup.

Just work out the prices and dates and see whats best.

Got a reply from my Swedish friend, and it is the Harwich-Esbjerg ferry that she uses. Apparently it isn't cheap, but has nice clean comfortable cabins with shower and toilet and TV.

Personally the idea of spending 18hrs on a ferry fills me with fear and dread, so I'd go via any route that avoided it, even if that involved hours of driving, but that's just me :D

Alun-Thanks for looking into this. I'll check out the ferry a bit more and look at their schedule and costs. I might not mind being on a ferry for that long, depends on what type of vehicle I would be driving really for the alternative route.
