    Hey all,

I'm possibly looking for a new network.

I like to be connected when I'm not at home and vodafones atrocious browsing costs are putting me off ( not even browsing just receiving emails) it'll cost me around €22 a month it seems to just get emails pushed to my device and load the google home page every once in a while.

Anyway, Ideally I'd like either a bill of payg package up to €20 maybe €25 if it's great, I don't think I'd need that much data, just enough to use twitter, facebook, and eirtext apps and maybe a few webpages on safari.

Unlimited texts to all networks would be nice but I won't be fussy.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

Edit: I'm aware of 3's offer but that's ending in a few monthes :(

Get meteor bill pay lite 10euro deal
    50 mins
    50 txts to other network
    free txts to meteor
and u can add on data packages either 250mb for 5euro or 10gb for 15.
only a month contract so if it's no use can get rid of it

    Thanks both,

Anyone here using best of both? It seem I can get unlimited text, 40 minutes to all networks and 40 minutes to 3 and 1GB of internet for €24.99

    I use vodafone billpay

€20 a months gives you 100 min and 100 txt
free calls and texts to vodafone
+€10 gives you a 1GB of data which I never go over.

Most of my mates are on vodafone so I never go over my €30 a month.

    And no yearly contract.

I'm with them at the moment, to be honest 100 minutes is too much for calls and I have alot of friends on meteor, vodafone ,three and o2..

And I hate their buggy website it's really putting me off giving them my custom.

6 month contract though. Monthly sim-free deal is €29 for 90mins /270 texts and your 1Gb add-on. You can get out then if you want a new iPhone or whatever. Or leave out the data, and go on €29 p/m which give you 300 mins or 900 texts or 300mb.

    What about a Vodafone PAYG?

20€ gets you free calls and texts to all 087/Voda numbers and 30€ will get you 36€ to do the same leaving you 16€ in credit.
Then change the 20€ into a 5GB data bundle in "Extras". Use the data for surfing and mailing.
    Get Jelly SMS app
Use the 600 free webtexts from Vodafone to send to every other network in Ireland and the world via Jelly.

    That's a lot of noise for 20€........

I'm on it at the moment, I can't use the data bundle on my iOS4 3GS(which is a joke), Their site is crap, took me a lot of attempts to actually buy the data package and then it didn't work anyway.

30e for 200 mins and texts to any network, free meteor to meteor and 1 gb of data, on a rolling contract, good job imo

In iOS4 the APN us set to live and it seems the mobile broadband package doesn't operate through the live package!

Also thanks all for the responses I'll take a look tomorrow :D

Stick the SIM in a different handset and change the APN.

Great stuff! I wasn't even aware that I could convert credit into a data package. This info should be put in a sticky, if it already is in a sticky it's hard to spot.

That's what happened to me. VF told me to use the !Live APN on the iPhone, but it wouldn't work. The Internet APM always worked perfectly though. That was on 3.1.2/3 when you could change.

As someone who also had to rely on webtext apps like Jelly or Eirtext to keep my bill down, I wouldn't recommend it. Apple doesn't give you the option of putting incoming texts into 3rd party apps, meaning that regardless of what you're using, all your texts will stil come into the same Apple Messages app. This means having to open up a seperate app every time you want to reply to a text, and having one app for incoming texts and another for sent texts. It just all gets a bit messy and over time if you don't exercise severe restraint you're just going to pay the extra by replying in the Messages app itself.

I think that 3's PAYG is the best i've seen:

    20euro a month for:

    - Unlimted free texts to ANY network (i hate when networks offer free texts to just one network, my friends are on every network)

    - Unlimted weekend minutes to ANY network.

    - 250mb of data (you have to pay €5 for this, out of the original €20euro topup.

    - Use all of the above in other countries that have the 3 network, so no roaming charges if you go to say, the UK.

    http://www.three.ie/products_services/priceplans/prepay.htm

That's a very good offer, but after major problems with their customer service I wouldn't go back, but that's just personally speaking. Also 35c to ANY number, whether it be landline, 3, Vodafone etc during weekdays isn't exactly fantastic.

    Here's what I do...
    • Top up by €20 a month with Vodafone.
    • Sign up for free texts to any network for that same month.
    • Join Vodafone 360, which gives you 100MB a day of data. This costs €12.09 per month, but instead of a lump sum it takes off 39c from your credit every day.
    • This leaves you €8 a month for calls which is just about enough to last me the 30 days. Even if I do fall short I can also do another 20 euro top up and start another 30 day cycle a few days early.

Don't forget all that free credit you get as well. €10 a month for a year if you're new to Vodafone PAYG.

Vodafone 360 and three's offers aren't available for much longer, and I'm looking for a long term option that I can use for the next 3 years of college.

gonna highjack here, which would be the best network for data roaming up north of which I do a lot. my monthly bills are 300-400 a month would be nice to cut it down a bit. currently with 02 and would approx use 400 min a month and 200 texts but it's the roaming that's killing me

Vodafone's 360 offer ends tomorrow actually!
    Prepay: Get a 360 bundle

With our new promotional Prepay bundle you pay only up to €12.09 per month (based on 31 day month), deducted from your Prepay credit balance in equal amounts each day. Your download limit is also doubled to 100MB.

Just buy a 360 compatible phone and start using 360 services, and we'll switch you to the 360 bundle rate. You must top up by €20 in one month to stay on the lower rate.

This offer ends on June 30, 2010.

    Threes €20 top up offer.
    €20 top-up promotion ends 03/11/10.

The only logical step here is Three Ireland. There are NO roaming charges at all for the north of Ireland including MO/MT voice, data and SMS. YOu use it as though you were "at home".

Didn't you need a 360 handset anyway for this to work? I joined Voodoo 360, and quite apart from the website being a total confusing mess, nothing ever happened with regards to data.

I really can't agree with this at all. If you send webtexts, replies are going to come to your handset, period. It's nothing to do with Apple nor is it to do with the authors of either Jelly or EirText Pro. I personally have never mixed up the various apps despite having 10 accounts to draw upon but I concede that others might. EirText Pro gets round the problem somewhat by offering push messages where replies get pushed into the app and both apps offer reports.

In addition, the authors of the two main apps have gone some way to alleviating that slight problem, where the recipient might forget to reply via their apps. both apps contain an option whereby you can remind the addressee how to reply for free.

Went into CPW today and asked about the best plan because i'm spending too much going on the internet everyday. He basically said that an iphone wouldn't be any use on 3 because its not set up right to work with them and that their customer care leaves a lot to desire. So I think i'm just going to switch to the meteor free meteor to meteor txts and internet. I can use the Eirtext app then to txt others and I only use my internet to go on facebook and check the news apps and stuff.
Would this be the best plan for someone who doesn't use to much MB's and txts a lot?

Well, speaking as someone who has been using an iPhone 3G on 3 Ireland, 3 Uk and 3 Italy, the man doesn't know his albow from his erse. It works perfectly well on 3. Not only does it work brilliantly but tethering works straight from the box now, providing you with the best Bluetooth modem available.

Not for nothing is it known as the Crapphone Whorehouse!

I was surprised I was eligible for it as well. I had assumed only those specific Vodafone 360 phones they sell online would work but when I rang them up they were just like yeah no problem we'll sign you up.

That's fair enough. EirText in particular is a brilliant app and I had no hesistation in buying the Pro version, but nothing can beat having both sent and received messages in the one app. That's just me being awkward however, I'm sure others can see around that no problem. The push feature isn't really viable for me since my 3G battery is on its last legs as it is.

So you have to ring them as well? I signed up, but the website was a poxy mess. I also installed the Connect app on my iPhone which messed up all my contacts. I have never noticed that I was on 100mb a day. However, I now have 100mb here in Belfast per diem free with giffgaff until the end of the year, so who cares? :-)

I also have 3 gigs a month with 3 Italy.

3G battery, eh? :-) My iPhone 4 battery is already on its last legs :-)

iPhone works fine on 3, no edge but you do get the choice to switch between GPRS and 3G which can be handy.
    Tethering works very well.

Ok so now I have my O2 contract cancelled, I'm also looking around for my best options. I've asked this on the Vodafone forum but they are now gone for the day. Does anyone know if you can data roam at no extra cost on the Vodafone Simply plan with the 1GB add on? You can do with the tailored iPhone plans using the 'Live' APN.

Update: Vodafone forum say Yay but 1907 say Nay! still none the wiser...

    @culabula is right.

With Jelly SMS, I've added the ability for the sender to append a special 'Reply' signature to each message, then when the recipient clicks on the reply link, it will open up the Jelly SMS (or Jelly SMS Free) new message 'Compose' screen, with the original senders number already filled in.

This is almost as fast as pressing reply with the built in iPhone SMS app.
