...surely there is more to this than meets the eye. Can't see how it could be possible?

    Very odd indeed

    http://wireupdate.com/local/netherlands-family-members-find-brother-dead-in-bed-after-four-years/
MINNERTSGA, NETHERLANDS (BNO NEWS) -- Dutch police have launched an investigation into the death of a 50-year-old man who was found dead in his bed after more than four years, authorities announced on Wednesday.

The man lived together with his two brothers - aged 61 and 67 - and his two sisters - aged 44 and 71 - at a home in Minnertsga, a small village in the northern province of Friesland.

Police said his body was discovered by one of his relatives in his bed on Monday afternoon, more than four years since they had last spoken to him. "They last spoke to their brother in spring of 2006," a police statement read. "He had said he wanted to be left alone on his room."

On Monday, the housing corporation advised the family they wanted to perform maintenance on the home. Then, one of his brothers or sisters went inside the room and discovered the deceased man on his bed. "A general practitioner called police," authorities said.

Police have launched an inquiry to find out whether any crimes were committed. The body of the man, whose identity was not immediately released, will be examined.

    Four years?

Surely they'd smell him after a few weeks?

    One word.
    Decomposition.

Unless the room was airtight, that room would have stank out the apartment. They knew, but did not report it for some reason. Out of all the siblings, one one said even once, Jeez, i wonder how himself is doing?
    Shennanigans I cry!

Bunch of middle-aged/borderline elderly brothers and sisters all living together. One says he wants to be left alone in his room and is found dead in his bed four years later. I love the epicness of the weirdness of that story.

It's the Netherlands, they were probably too stoned to notice.

To find somebody dead/alive in a house after four years seems like good record in Europe these days

If i was 50 and still living with my brothers and sisters i'd probably want to kill myself!

Hmmm...very strange story, time to put on my suspicious head.

    Sounds well dodgy!
How they managed to stay in the house while he rotted away is beyond me

Maybe he only died last week...doesn't say

    It is truly very strange.

If he only died recently, then how did he survive for all that time without food and water, using the toilet etc?

If he did die four years ago, then why did no one check on him etc and wouldn't there have been a horrific smell?

I'd love to know the outcome of this one?

Is it odder than this one? Woman in sumo wrestler suit assaulted her ex-girlfriend in gay pub . The printed version was even longer.

You are the type of what the age is searching for, and what it is afraid it has found. I am so glad that you have never done anything, never carved a statue, or painted a picture, or produced anything outside of yourself! Life has been your art. You have set yourself to music. Your days are your sonnets.

There was a stroy a few years ago of a man who washed up on an English beach, with amnesia, and no identification etc. Can't find the story, but this is a similar one: http://www.metro.co.uk/news/814966-do-you-know-who-this-memory-loss-man-is

This guy from a few years ago popped up a few weeks later in the news, as it was discovered that he could play some symphonies from memory on a piano...fascinating story I thought

This is the chap you are looking for - the true version of events is rather different to the early version that the media went with.
