Delighted to see Waterford consistently competing at minor level the last few years.

Wed 7th July for the Replay. Stupied time. Whoever wins will have to play the final 4 days after that against Clare who would have a 2 week rest.

Very good game tonight. A good crowd at it.

Cheer Kev, delighted with that win. So happy to see Waterford challenging at underage level, bodes hugely well for the future.

Just back from the game, absolutely delighted for the lads. It's not often that we beat Cork underage so it made it all the sweeter.
We started very well and were tacking over points from all angles. Workrate was unreal and we were winning all the 50/50's, everything was going right for us. Half time was 2-10 to 0-5 and it seemed we were gonna run up a cricket score. But credit to Cork they battled back heroicly. They got a few points and then a goal and before long were only 3 or 4 points in arrears. If anything it looked as if Cork were going to claw it back.
But in fairness to our lads they held their nerve and managed to get the scores when the pressure was really on, which was shown by a strong finish to close out the game.
Paudric Mahony was top class for Waterford, scored a good few points and was very accurate from frees. Paudric Prendergast and Gavin O'Brien got thru a huge amount of work in midfield. Eamonn Murphy also battled at centre forward, won a lot of ball and took a few scores well, excellent game from him. Jake Dillon too deserves a mention. Half forward line did so well first half the Cork selectors withdrew the 2 starting wing backs to curtail their influence. Too many more to mention but in fairness all the lads had a good game. Bit worrying that we took our foot off the gas in the 2nd half and let Cork back into it but still pleased with the performance and result.
Cork's two corner forwards Brian Hartnett and Jamie Coughlan were top class, very dangerous when they got the ball and got some fine scores between them-def 2 for the future.

So fair play to the lads and commiserations to Cork, really was a fine game of hurling and I'm glad Cork came back to make a game of it as I feel this will put us in better stead going into Sunday v Clare with two tough games under our belts.

Just back myself, a great game overall. Waterford were simply outstanding in the first half, some great teamwork and eagerness to win every breaking ball. Cork came out strong in the second half as expected but Waterford hung on in there and finished strong, despite still having their starting 15 on the pitch until 2 mins to go, a sign of some great fitness in the team, but hopefully they wont be negatively affected on Sunday.

Pretty much what Cake man said just iswell...
I thought Jake Dillion was absolute class in the first half tbh, think he had 3 if not 4 different people switched on to him throughout the game to try keep him quiet and he ran rings around them all until his belt in the second half..
Then the half back line are something else, they're all huge fellas and I thought they were very, very good again for the first half very little got past them, Eoin Madigan being the pick of them.
The goal were badly caught for. It started as a free from our half back and Meaney was calling for where Madigan was to hit it, but where he hit it there was no Waterford player without 3 yards of it  So that left the Cork(Centre back think?) hit the ball into the square where the man had got behind our full back.
They're a good team though the 3 half forwards and half backs were strong and the in mid field Prendergast was very good.

Im still not really sure where it went wrong for us in the 2nd half though.. We got a free (which left us 12points up) and Cork did the same.. Then Cork got another point and the goal. Then they had a few 65's which brought them right into it. And then we couldnt get the ball on the other side of the midfield..
So yea that was longer then I intended... But they're a decent team and shouldnt be written off :)

EDIT: Also thought the ref had a very good game, maybe 2ish soft frees for each team but it did balance itself out and I thought he did well to let things off.

urrrrgh, what happened to th rest of my post!:confused:

Players that stood out for me from a Waterford POV were

O Keeffe, Egan and Fives in the backs

Both midfielders O Brien and Prendergast but particulary Prendergast, some great runs

Mahoney, Murphy and Jake Dillon in an outstanding half forward line.

Great to see us get such a resounding win against Cork, as always they had a strong bench and the subs made a difference particulary in the second half. Hopefully they can keep the feet on the ground and concentrate now on Sunday and win what would be a unique 2 in a row at minor level for Waterford
