Planning on going in August for a week to do a bit of scuba diving and sunbathing

    Is one week enough?

    plenty.
It will be boiling hot though.
    40c or more

October/november is nicer 27c and just as busy when we were there.

    Thanks for the post.

I'm also really against package holidays but is it just me or do Falcon Holidays have great deals to Egypt? I mean the price of flights alone is 700/800 euro yet you can get a package with Falcon in a 5 star hotel for that per person?

    Anyone else?

Same as briar. 1 week is plenty and August will be disgustingly hot. I went last september and it was mid 30's and still managed to get sick and nearly pass out from dehydration (not a nice feeling). Diving is amazing! Did my open water exam over there and I cant wait to go back. Booked through falcon as well and we got it for under 700 for a week all inclusive in Coral Sea Resort which was nice. August is usually cheaper because people are put off going by the heat. September/Oct and April/May are busy

I agree entirely with Black Briar that it will be incredibly hot. We were there for a week in June two years ago and even though we had a massive balcony, we made no use of it whatsoever, because of the very hot sun. My one regret was not going to Mount Sinai (Ten Commandments) but it was a longish journey and I feared sun-stroke.

If you check the Sharm Forum on TripAdvisor you will find lots of useful information. Do also check out the hotel reviews! Haggling; mosquitoes; tummy upsets and males who pester females are part and parcel of Sharm.

One week was enough for me, though sometimes the second week doesn't cost a whole lot more. Behind the purpose-built resorts and luxury-style hotels, is a lot of poverty and I felt very sad for the many taxi workers, cleaners, gardeners, (all male) who work for such little pay.

Do let us know what you decide!

I would strongly advise not going in August. My friend found it almost unbearable in May. There is a reason it is very cheap at that time of year. 1 week in Sharm is fine. You should do a trip to somewhere like Cairo, Luxor or Petra though; they are by plane and add a bit of culture to the trip!

Was there in early March this year and weather was amazing, 30c most days, no humidity or mossies. One week is enough. Book flights to Cairo etc locally for the best deals.

Hi thanks for the post, do you know how much the local tours cost per person such as flights to cairo or luxor?

just put in your dates on the egyptair site and you'll get a ball park on cairo.
The airport codes are ssh and cai.

The pyramids and a few museums up there are doable in a full day.
You should be able to get a decent 5 star hotel actually if you are going to brave it for july/august.
I saw deals on ebookers for 5 stars including flights last year for around €600 for a week.

edited to add, those aren't like package tours with reps etc like the sun holiday type things, they are a different thing,it's where agencies like ebookers can get flights real cheap if they sell accomadation with them. It's a contract thing they do with suppliers.
You do what you want your self when you land.

If you know where you are staying, you could email their concierge for tour details and prices.

You can get tours to Cairo for STG£110.00 in Na'ama Bay.

If you get direct flights then a week would be ok.

Am just back after 2 weeks there myself. As others have said the heat would be cat in August, we had 47 degrees last week, it isn't nice I can tell you.
