So I've decided to take the plunge after several weeks of mulling and I'm going to get the Canon 24-70. It's going for in or around 1200 in Dublin.

Conn's say they'll give me 200 for my 17-85mm should I trade it in or hang onto it, veering on the trade it in side, but using a 30d so with the crop factor a wee bit nervous of the lack a wider angle even though I barely use the 17-85 at the moment? any suggestions?

try get it online or secondhand --- adverts, photographyireland, donedeal, gumtree, buyandsell .... all decent sources of secondhand lenses and cameras.

It's a little long on a crop but hardly a loss especially if you have a wider lens to cover that end. If you don't use the 17-85 much why get a 24-70?

I sound like a broken shill but give Ian Kerr a shout. He'll do you a good deal outside of ebay.

It's just the quality of it that I don't like it doesn't compare to other few lenses that I have perhaps its the quality of the glass not, I use it but prefer the end result from the others. but having said that it's the widest I have at the moment, so if I did trade it in that's my worry with the 24-70 until I move up to full frame in the next few months I hope.

I have been looking only but haven't seen any going secondhand at the moment I'll give ian a shout, but was hoping to buy Irish support the locals and all that. Thanks
