go onto all the big company websites and get quotes. try the broker websites too. each person is different. get quotes and compare.

Remember, lower capacity engine = lower insurance ;)

When you're 17 it ain't that easy, Quinn will quote and maybe Aviva if he does the ignition test.

    Remember, this is not true.

I found it to be untrue too! When I started driving at 19 I was getting cheaper quotes on a 1.4 Civic then I was on a 1.0L Micra!

It would apply I'd assume if they're going for a 2.0 rather then a 1.0

Exactly, it's the only time it might be applicable.
but even then you could have a certain 1.3turbo car that would be harder to insure than some 3litre turbos :p

Sorry I should correct myself! Power output instead of capacity?! But the value of the car probably had more of an impact between a 1.4 and a 1.0.

Still I'd be very surprised if 1.3T was producing more power than a 3.0T and had higher insurance based on this alone.

Also, I found getting an alarm and adding my girlfriend as a named driver took my insurance down a bit, might help the OP a bit better.

Apparently my car is impossibly hard to insure when you're an 18 year old male in a bad place housing-wise. With added modifications you'd think it'd be proper impossible for me to get insurance but no, it's cheap as chips and I am the above :D

@OP try Britton insurance. They are normally great for young males (like myself - insured on a rover 75 1.8 for around €1600 with no NCB on a provisional)

I'm with Setanta through First Ireland. Give them a ring. They got me that insurance on a JDM RX-8 for €1550.

Try Quinn. They were one of the few companies that would insure me on a civic when I was 17.

Ring around to all the major companies and brokers, those online quoting systems are terrible for under 25s.

Insurance companies are a joke, I would sugest phoning every company you see advertised, two mabye three different times, You will be amazed the variation in quoted prices from day to day, and i was amazed to find that there was over a 200euro differance in my insurance policy done over the net and by ringing them up the very same day, exact same policy.
    keep shoping around

Get a broker to get a deal with Asgard. Used insure.ie as my broker, and got a decent deal with them, on a provisional, when the rest (Quinn included) were offering quotes of €800 to €1,000 more.

Male. I'm also not too young (got a quote of €1,700, 1st provisional, when I was 27, on a 1.4 Honda Civic). No excess, fully comp. Seems Asgard go for "young" drivers, according to their website. Asgard is part of the llyods group.
