hopefully this is the right forum , but is this tri too hard for a first time olympicer who has only done 3 sprints ?
i entered for timing and location but am getting worried now!
my sprints were ok , not too bad , not too good.
    any thoughts appreciated.
btw i am not an experienced bike man either , the swim is my forte.

Hi Anvil, Beast of the East is a tough tri but I did it after having only done 1 sprint tri before it and that was a pool swim. Lough Dan is very dark and if it's windy can be a little bit choppy but if you're a strong swimmer that shouldn't be a problem for you. (I'm a weak swimmer and it wasn't a problem for me).

The bike is tough for a non-cyclist like me and starts with a tough climb up. Not being a great swimmer or cyclist I'm always fairly far back when I get to the run. The run is also tough enough (I'm not really selling this am I?!) but the last 2/3k are downhill and the finish is right down at Lough Dan so I'd grab the drink they hand you as you collapse over the line, and drink it as you walk straight into the lake and sit down to let the healing process begin.

Wicklow Tri do an excellent job of organising this tri from the gear crates provided to the excellent burger and substantial salad/pasta nosh you get afterwards. I'd highly recommend this tri. I was hoping to make it for my third year in a row but I'm doing a different race that weekend out of the country unfortunately.

You be fine.... Just take your time on the swim and 1st half of the bike... The run is tough but as GoHard says the last 3km is downhill. This was by far my favourite event last year. The crowd of volunteers wicklow get out to help are amazing and are an example to other clubs (they even managed to get Craig Doyle as MC last year). The food after is great and the lake for a cool down is very welcome.

I'm really disappointed I wont be around for it this year but the alps are calling

I did B of E as my first Olympic after only a few sprints. Without a doubt it's a tough course but you'll have a great sense of achievement afterwards and the atmosphere is really great. Maybe cycle the bike route in advance and take the mystery out of it ! Good luck.

I can only echo the previous posters... though but great course (scenic).
To give you an idea, I did 2h34 in Athy, and 3h10min at BotE....I must have finished in the last 25 or so. Because it is a though course, i think the entry level is high, and i am just joe average.
Go for it, pace yourself and enjoy.

Great course and very well run...numbers are small, so it has a real intimate feel to it.

Will miss it this year due to the small matter of IM Switzerland on the same day, but normally it is a "must do".

    Go for it!

Map and course video available on the race website. A few hills but the scenery takes your mind off them :)
