Could you provide more details about the problems you're experiencing ?
Is it the SIP registration that fails ?

No mate - it's the very 1st step of connecting it to my router!

The phone is brand new and I can see my router but when trying to connect to it, nothing is happening. I can get into the hidden service menu no problem, it just connecting to the router seems not to work.

I've created a new profile for the router, added the router IP address and also the password to connect to the router.

    Thanks :)

ha ok. It's a Wifi problem then.

Do you get any useful error message?

Check if your router is using DHCP (meaning that the router will set most the network settings automatically). Check that your router can allow more clients in its DHCP pool.

On your router configuration interface, double check the Wifi settings (encryption method, auth mode ...). They need to be exactly the same on the phone's side.

OK Guillaume - thanks. I'll run through that when I get home. No error messages from the handset I'm afraid.

DHCP is setup and only 4 addresses are in use (out of a pool of 50) so it's not that. Encryption is also setup and this may be where the problem is. I figured that connecting the phone would have been as simple as connecting a laptop... :o

I'll have to find out from the phone how to change these settings.

One thing - isn't there a web interface for the phone? Perhaps I can switch off encryption then the phone can get an address and I can then connect to it before setting up encryption on both sides again.

To get a web interface you'd need to have the phone properly set up on your local network ;)

According to the manual you pointed out, you can do everything from the handset. Check the section called "Set up and activate new profile".

I got as far as setting up a new profile (yet again!). The handset finds the router but still not connecting. I am getting as far as the authentication screen though. The router is set to WPA2-PSK but the handset doesn't seem to have this option. I can only see these options that are close (other then 802.1x)-
    Authentication: WPA
    Security: TKIP

Entering the password for the router still doesn't work. :(

These are the options on the router -
    Security Options
    None
    WEP
    WPA-PSK [TKIP]
    WPA2-PSK [AES]
    WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]

Does this mean anything to you? Thanks!! :)

    Ok.

That means your router is using an authentication technology that the phone doesn't understand.

If you want to use that phone with the router, you'd need to modify the wifi setting on the router to an older technology, probably WPA.
Note that this will deconnect ALL the devices you have connected over wifi !!
If you use the wifi for a few device you'd need to update their connection settings to cope with the WPA.
Make sure to take notes about the different settings before making any change, so that you can roll things back if needs be.

OK - thanks Guillaume. That makes sense :)

So, I take it I need to set it to the 3rd option above (WPA-PSK [TKIP)?

According to what you mentioned previously, yes.

Hi Guillaume. Sorry - was away for the weekend :)

I gave it a go again today after changing the encryption to WPA-PSK [TKIP] but still no joy. In the profile for the router, I enter anonymous as the username with the password to connect but it still would not connect - after switching on it takes ages 'Connecting to WLAN' then 'No Access Point' after putting in the pin.

After switching the security option to None on the router, the handset booted up and showed 'Logging On'. Not much use without encryption though.

Almost at the stage of giving up :(

    Sorry to hear that.

I never tried to contact Siemens to get some tech support on a phone but they maybe have a help center you could call. I reckon that's the next thing I would try.

That describes the behaviour one might expect if there was an error entering the PreShared Key.

Maybe try with a very simple key .... one containing only one letter or number ..... at first, and see if it helps any.

I am not familiar with the phone in question ....... when setting the PSK on the phone is it in the clear so you can determine if it is a letter or digit you are entering?

I may be totally off the wall with this, but I would check most carefully the PSK entered in both devices.

BTW ..... nice looking phone .....

    regards.

Thanks John - much appreciated :)

The PSK is uppercase, lowercase and numbers - as you suggested, I'll try it this evening with a more simple format.

I've also just compared the encryption options of the Netgear WNR3500 (post #7 above) with my original BT Voyager 2110 and it looks like the Voyager is a lot more flexible - I can pick WPA security and then which encryption to use. I'm going to play around with this and see if it works with the phone.

It'll be a pain if this works and the Netgear wont - I bought the Netgear router as an upgrade! :o

I have a Siemens OptiPoint WL2 Pro handset and I'm trying to connect it to my Netgear WNR3500 wireless router but I'm going round in circles with no joy! Can anyone please advice - hopefully I'm missing something stupid. :o

I've been using this online manual - http://wiki.siemens-enterprise.com/images/f/fd/Administration_Manual_optiPoint_WL2_professional_S_.pdf

The plan is to get it setup and then use Blueface.

    Thanks :)

    Hi
The Siemens Wlan phones can only be used on Siemens pbx ideally using the Siemens wireless access controller which handles ap Handover for roaming etc. The phone uses wireless only to connect to the pbx. The telephony config is done on the pbx and the phone registers to the pbx using proprietary hfa protocol.
I was not aware that it was capable of connecting to a sip provider. But that may have changed on the latest code on the phones.

Most Siemens Gigaset phones work with SIP providers (Like Blueface), and usually you can configure on the phone itself.

The Siemens IP phones are different.

Agreed. The Siemens opti point handsets are for use on hipath 2k, 3k and 4k pbx models and also work on the older hicom. There Is code for the optipoint 410 and 420 ip phones to work with a sip provider but I have checked the Siemens tac website and I'm sorry to say that code is not available for the wireless phones.
