Was shopping with OH once upon a time and she wanted to pay for a few items of clothing as well as return one item. Now the manager of the shop was right up his own bum, talking down to all the other workers and treating all the customers like second class citizens, he looked at us in disgust, and OH told him these items were being bought and one to be returned. He was too busy giving other people orders he credited OH everything and gave 80.00. Credit OH tried to explain what he had done but he would not listen and called the next customer. We looked at each other and said feck it he kind of deserves it and left. Have you ever got more change than you handed over, are you honest as I would usually be or would you stuff it in your pocket and leg it?

Thats just ridiculous, manager should be shot for that kind of mistake. Ridiculous. If its a euro and i only noticed half way down the street or something id probably keep it. If is was anything material id give it back

Paid for two pints in a "superpub". Handed over a tenner, got change of a €50. Did I keep it? No! I gradually handed it back to the bar staff in exchange for more alcohol.

depends. if it was a local newsagence or the type I'd give it straight back. if it was some big rip off ar$ehole like M & S I'd keep it. sure theyve been robbing me for years.

If it is a shop or bar you go frequently and sort of know the people working there then no you should not keep the change. However if you are only in a place once off and they give incorrect change take it because most likely you will never be back.

Depends on who serves me. If they're remotely pleasant, I'll hand it back. If they're the usual pig-ignorant sows that I encounter in most multiples (quality exception being the local SV, staff in there are brilliant) then I'll keep it.

In Tesco a few years back I was given a €50 instead of a €5.

Gave it back because I thought that they had to account for the money in their till, and I didn't want to get yer man in trouble.

They do but you get the sack quicker by having a + in your till than a -. Even if it's a tiny + if it happens too often you'll get a bollocking for it. At least for us anyway.

if its in a shop i will give it back (i worked in the same work before on a till) simply because if the till is down lets say €20 then the cashier gets investigated and all hell breaks loose.

    on the other hand

theres a vending machine in the staff room and the bars keep getting stuck on the edge and they don't drop.... so what it does is lets us have another selection or our money back.... we get our money back and shake the machine until the goodies drop !

If he's that much of a prick forget it. I managed to undercharge someone by 150euro once. She gave me 4500 in cash, and someone interrupted me counting. When she came back to get her stuff,we both knew what'd happened, but i couldn't ask her for the money after me counting it. She was a bitch and all, which made it worse. If it'd been the other way round,i wouldn't have mentioned it either.

Ya this is one of the main reasons I'd give it back too. I used to work in dunnes years ago and every so often they go over your balances, and if you had any discrepancies over 5 euros you'd get an official warning over it.

But then it'd also depend on my mood..... and whether or not the person that served me was a cúnt ....

I try to give the money back, definitely if it's anything substantial.

However, if it's only a few cent and I don't realise untill i've left the shop I sometimes keep it because i'd be too embarrassed going back :(.

I'd say give back the change, because most would kick up a stink if they were short changed so it balances out.

It's not really a "screw you big company" issue, the company wont lose out, they'll just take it out of the person's wages. If I noticed immediately I'd give back the extra change (I've been on the other side of the till, I know how grateful they'd be!), but I never check my change so I probably wouldn't notice for ages.

Woah! ppl are way more honest than me!

    I just thought happy days!

However I do suppose it depends on the amount and your finances at that point!

Also if you notice instantly at the till your reaction would be to point it out without thinking like if someone dropped the money in front of you!

I was just thinking I'd run like the wind, as I clicked reply I spilled my drink over myself, karma is a bitch:mad: I'd still run though!

I'd definitely give it back. Worked on tills/counters for years and I know what a pain in the hoop it can be when you don't balance at the end of the day.

Really, if she was actually telling him to take the money back and he was that self righteous, he deserved it. Happened me once in the North. Cashier made a mistake in giving too much Euro change back. Gave up after the fourth time telling her.

In your situation, you tried to give back and he was a jerk. Oh well.

My usual policy is to return it. You never know when a shortage in the til could cause some poor clerk to lose their job.

In a Cork Nighclub about 4 years ago, I called my drink and ahnded a 20 to the bar man and was due change of just over 5 quid, I was talking to my buddy at the tie when he handed back my change, I stuffed it into my pocket and only realised later on that he had given me back a 20 instead of 5, did I say anything, hell no, it paid for more drink.

about 7 years ago I was in Crete for the usual LC shenanigans. Went into a bank to cash travellers cheque and the banker gave me €50 extra. I felt bad and gave it back.

Guess it was a sign for the future

Its funny. If I get a couple of €'s more in change I'll keep it.....but if my change is a couple of cent under I'll tell the shop attendant.

Did I mention my middle name is "Cheap Bastard"?

Can you peel an orange in your pocket by any chance? :)

If i realised it i'd definitely give it back. I'd hate to think that a checkout operative was going to get a bollocking from Dunnes Stores management or something like that over an honest mistake.

No!! Jesus i'm not that bad!

I didn't work in a place where the tills had to be balanced every night. There were ways and means of doing things :D

No. The only one out of pocket was me. I put a fair bit of it back myself.

Say something costs €150. You tell the till it's €120 and still take full price for the item. Till is now back up by €30.

Something along them lines yeah. But we didn't have to tell the till anything. So things didn't have to tally up.

Ah where I work till mistakes are flagged at €3. I would give it back! Keeping it isn't going 'well that company is a rip-off anyway', it's leaving the assistant open to disclipinary/dismissal.

i always give extra change back. I wouldn't if i hated the person that was serving me or the owner though.
