I've got a HP 6830s, probably for nearly two years at this stage, and it's beginning to make loud revving noises for prolonged periods and can also get extremely hot. What can I do to stop this? I've only got around 10gb memory left if that's any help to you.

    Thanks.

It's possible the vents and cooling system are clogged up with dust. If possible i'd try to clean it (with canned air etc). Some laptops make it easy to do this and unfortunately some don't.
