    Hi,

I have heard various reports where you need X amount of money in your account before you travel.

I was at a visa migration seminar which said this was untrue.

How much would be an acceptable amount to carry out? For Sydney btw

It is "pish". If you have a credit card with you'll be fine. Not that ive ever heard of anyone ever getting asked about how they plan to support themselves on arrival.

I think maybe if your a bit dodge, and they're looking for a reason to turn you away they might come up with this. But reckon its mostly for people who turn up without a work visa, for an extended amount of time.

    Its not pish
You must have access to sufficient funds to support yourself for the initial stage of your holiday. Generally, AUD$5000 may be regarded as sufficient, but the amount may vary depending on your length of stay and the extent of your travel.

But it is usually never checked unless they had other reasons they might want to refuse you entry.

$5000 is not really a lot of money, if you had any less than that and didn't get work in the first 2 months... it wouldn't feel like much of a holiday.
