Unlock / Upgrade advice - Apple unlocked phone

    Hi All

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Just wondering if anyone can offer some advice regarding my iPhone 3G (week 33 build) and the ios4 upgrade. The phone was originally an O2 unit that my sister gave me some months ago. As I'm a Vodafone customer I used Blackra1n to unlock the unit but didn't wish to install Cydia so didn't bother.

Today I received an email from O2 saying that the unit has now been unlocked by Apple and the next time it's connected to iTunes it will essentially "unlock" the phone.

My questions are - 1. do I need to factory restore or reset the phone before connecting it to iTunes or just leave it be and connect it regardless.

    2. Will I even be able to connect the phone at all, even to simply perform a backup before I restore it?

    3. Am I running the risk of Apple bricking the unit if I connect it to iTunes?

    4. In the event that it is bricked, does anyone have a carrier pidgeon for sale? Goind cheep[sic] like, I'm not made of bird seed!!

My iTunes (9.0.2.25) has all iPhone sync and update options set to manual.

    iPhone 3G 8GB
    Week 33 build
    Blackra1n unlock only
    Firmware 05.11.07
    Version 3.1.2 (7D11)
    iTunes version 9.0.2.25

Again thanks for taking the time to read this. Any advice greatly appreciated.:D:D

    Cheers guil

Do I need to put the phone in DFU mode before or simply hit the restore button in iTunes?

Should I upgrade iTunes before embarking on this restore?

Apologies for all the questions and many thanks for the advice.

    Hi

Just wanted to say thanks again for the help. Restore went perfectly, albeit terribly slowly. During the restore iTunes message congratulates me on having my iPhone unlocked.

Restored my backup without a single issue :D:D!

    Thanks again.
