    Hi,
I have a toshiba NB200-11N running windows XP home.... My windows\system\config\system file is corrupt or missing.....
The HDD recovery won't work (holding 0 when it powers on, it appears in the bottom corner but quickly disappear). My computer can't get into windows (not safe mode or anything) there is no repair option when I hold f8, only safe mode etc.

There is no cd rom drive on this computer and I have no external one. Is there anyway I can make a widows xp disk for a SD disk or USB disk? My other computer runs windows 7.....

I was told I'd need the very same model of netbook if I wanted to make a toshiba recovery disc..... have access to a NB200-10Z or something like that... but guy on phone said it needs to be a -11N. anyonebody any ideas on what I can do?
Have a 16gb sd card... no big usb sticks... but big external hard drive's if they can be used.....

    Thanks,
    Chris

thanks, yeah it does support usb, does it have to be flash or can I use an external hard drive?

What about using an xp cd-rom, I have a dell one here... will I need a generic one in order to repair/install? or will the dell one work?

Got no cd with the netbook, as the hdd recovery is supposed to be all I need!

Think i can order one from toshiba but it'll cost me!

buy a cheap usb external cd / dvd drive? no need to bother with tosbiha one (rip off) the dell xp cd will do grand. something like bartPE could be used here to boot from the external drive.. however unless your a techie / want to get into all that id go with external usb cd drive..

I'll have a look at bartPE and see, might be able to burrow an external usb cd/dvd from somebody! make my life simpler!

    THanks for your help :-)

ok used ulsta iso to create a bootable usb of the windows cd....

getting following errer "txtsetup.sif is corrupt or missing. status 18"

so tried from another iso of xp service pack one.... didn't work

i don't need the same xp version do i? surely any cd should boot up if its the primary boot?

tried the usb in my desktop and am getting the same error....

was googling a bit... but getting tired and frustrated now so think i'll call it a night!

    Any help appreciated!

    Thanks!

I've have to re-install XP on 3 NB200's in the last week and had no problems. It's more reliable to do it from an external CD ROM drive than from a USB stick!

They are both block level devices, so it should not make much of a difference unless one of the devices is faulty.

I have the same problem, I need to re-install Windows Home on to a Toshiba Netbook. It didn't come with installation CDs.

I'd be happy to do a barter; I can loan you my external CD drive if you can loan me your XP Home installation CDs?

I can use my own legal Windows key to activate etc, so nothing illegal here, just a helpful barter! anyone?
