    What age/sex are you?
2,000 sounds crazy. My insurance went from 1,200 to 700 when i passed my driving test on 1.4 golf. I was 24/female.

My first car was a Fiat Panda!!! Great little car it was! You need to start small to keep insurance etc down.

Is the 5000 budget including insurance?

If your insurance is 2000, I wouldn't go for anything above a 1.3 (I'm assuming you're still young). It will be cheaper on tax, fuel and insurance.

Well I did it the mad way. I got a 1.9 turbo diesel for my first car on my own policy and got stung for 3300. Now with a year of having my driving license its down to 2000. 1300 a year after that according to quinn on the web. After 4 years of having a license with a 4 year no claims it would be 500.

All for third party. It comes down eventually.

There are the two reasons why your insurance is low. €2000 with no points, accidents or convictions implies the OP is a male, maybe even a young male.

I'm paying €1000 with 3 years no claims and a full license for that time too on a 1.1L. If I was a girl I'd be paying €600 or so.

    Toyota Yaris.
Cheap to run, cheap to insure. Will never break down and will hold its value exceptionally well.

Only thing is its mind numbingly dreary and boring to drive.

For insurance, I payed 2500eur for my 99 1.4 Ford Puma. First time, i'm 22 yr old guy. Every other insurer gave me a similar quote. Though if I was to get a 2001 model of the same car, I would have saved 300eur. Apparently cars more than 10yr old have higher insurance. But got my full license now. Will call the insurance tomorrow and see how much it'll go down.

    Toyota Yaris.

How about a Starlet? Id much prefer a tidy one of those then a Yaris. We had a Starlet in the family, sold it and a year or two after got a Yaris for some reason . . . What a crappy replacement.
