If anyone could help with finding front wing, bonnet, boot lid for that particular model, it would be much appreciated. Thank you

Sorry can't help but best of luck with it, the E12 gorgeous car, as was the E28 and E21.

I know it looks a bit sad on the outside, inside though it's almost immaculate, it's amazing given the conditions it was in. A friend of mine has a 1983 E28 all original, automatic, driving beautifully - those are great cars really...

Friend of mine has an original Irish 1979 518 being restored, he's got most of his stuff from Germany, I'll get the details off him.

Good luck with that - from the outside it looks like a big job! I'd a 73 e12 520 with under 40,000 miles on it once. Until it was stolen and written off.
I didn't need to get much for it - just a set of recon front brake calipers. Got them from http://www.wallothnesch.com/e/framewelcome.htm. The First Fives site is a very good resource.

Last weekend we lifted the car from where it had resided for the last few years and transported it to a new and a bit more car friendly spot...
The car's rear wheels were blocked, so it made the transportation a bit tricky... Read more...

Sorry to hear that John. Hopefully this one will be a bit more lucky. There are new pictures available if you would like to see more (some of them are a bit scary...)

thats quite brave alright there used to be one in the back of a dealers compound near where I lived as a kid, I think I may have a hubcap of it at my mother's house. That particular dealer sometimes left cars like that rot for years in the yard slowly working there way to the back of the yard until finally ending up in the scrap yard at the back.

That looks like a lot of work there, best of luck with it!
Why have you 'painted out the reg?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 82 ✭✭Route 66

No particular reason, it's a "WID" reg, which apparently was Cavan?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

I'd do that whole project just for the reg.

Best of luck, I think ye'll need it!

I was looking for a key to decode it and came across your posts on that subject from 2008 - very useful - thanks

    Yep indeed,either '74 or '75.

We came across a VIN decoder which indicates that the car was manufactured 11/1974, which makes your assessment spot on

That SU carb is not original fitment is it? I had an M10 engined 3 series for many moons and they had solex or weber carbs. http://bmwfans.info/parts/catalog/E12/Sedan/Europe/518-M10/LHD/M/1974/november/browse/fuel_preparation_system/

Our investigations show the M10 engine was indeed fitted with Solex/Stromberg carbs, which proved to be unreliable. This was resolved by fitting the replacement Weber carb. It is our intention to fit a Weber carb to it.

Removed the carb and inlet manifold which wasn’t original in any event although the manifold appeared to have been well made.

Bought a 40 Dellorto Weber at an Autojumble stand in Mountbellew show which I intend to use on the car but will need to have an inlet manifold made up to suit the Weber. Have to find someone for this...

I'd be inclined to source a complete car on Germany and strip it for parts if I was you, it's unlikely you'll get much second-hand or new in Ireland or England. Good luck with it though.
