So who is getting this game when it is released?

I hadn't heard much about this game until recently and probably wouldn't have given it a second thought until I heard it discussed on a podcast. It sounds really cool, especially the multi-player components.

The reviews have been pretty solid with most saying the multi-player stuff is the most fun. It also has a co-op campaign (for 3 people I think) too. I haven't played online co-op since the original Gears of War and that was a lot of fun.

I like the idea of being able to transform at will and fly off across the map. Should make for some interesting battles.

Would like to see more reviews, only saw 2, 1 gave a 9, the other gave it a meh!

The 360 demo is brilliant, day one buy for me.

Averaging 84 on metacritic from 10 reviews. had no interest in the game but now I may just pick it up. Adored Transformers as a kid so if this pushes some nostalgia buttons I'm all for it!

I was never a Transformers obsessive as a young lad, and the Michael Bay films have filled me with a bitter resentment towards the franchise as the whole. However, if this is indeed a game that gets the concepts of transforming robots down, colour me interested.

Is this out on Friday yeah? If it's as good as the PS2 Transformers game I may have to pick it up.

Did anyone pick this up today? Just wondering about prices.

I'm going to pop into GameStop and HMV at lunch. I expect HMV to be the cheapest as they have had good prices for new releases for a good while now.

    is there a special edition?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

Well the game is €44.99 in HMV and €49.99 in Gamestop (but with an exclusive character).

Tried the 360 demo there, it's actually fantastic. Plus, I was really good at it for some reason :/ Might pop down and get a copy after work tomorrow.

Has anyone managed to get into an online game yet? I haven't.

Played a few games of escalation online, worked well. Didn't try whatevers on the other side...deathmatch etc.

I'm playing the single player and I must say I'm not terribly impressed.

There's a lot of good ideas in there, but they're poorly executed and the gameplay is exceptionally dull.

It's way too easy to run out of ammo... which wouldn't be such an issue if melee combat wasn't so utterly useless and awkward.

Also, is this another case of a PS3 release being screwed over or are the textures this bad in the Xbox version as well?

I've played the first chapter of the campaign and haven't been overly impressed either. I bought it for the multi-player but haven't been able to connect yet. It always says 'Searching' but never finds a game.

I've never had a problem connecting online in any other PS3 game.

Okay. Just completed level 3 and it was pretty neat. Lots of space to really speed about the place in car form.

But the old PS2 game is few hundred times better than this.

I'm playing this on the Xbox (ssshhhh!) and must say I am thoroughly enjoying it. It's not revolutionary or anything, but it's just a good solid action game. Now, I'm not a Transformers fan by any stretch, but this gets the core concept down right. The campaign picks up after the first level of each campaign -
    Starscream stage kicks ass
. I've only played two levels of each campaign, but liking it so far. Multiplayer is a great lark, although I suck ass with Scientist class :pac:

@monkeyfudge - textures are only OK in the 360 version, not bad but definitely not out of this world.

Only major issue I have is that the environments can be a bit samey - all pretty much technological industrial style. Barring that, this is just a great Transformers game. The PS2 one was good too, but so frickin' impossible. This is quite easy, but multiplayer is where it's at.

It's just metal should be easy to render... but the textures are all very blocky and fuzzy.

I thought because they were going down the whole sort of Gears of War route with things that they would have included some sort of cover command... you sort of have to awkwardly position yourself behind stuff to get out of the line of fire.

Armada was a great game, but this latest addition is also a great game be it short in SP mode but makes up for it in MP.

This new game is 1000 times better than the last two movie versions and it keeps the TF fans happy too, talk of a sequel now also :D

I think it had the potential to be a bit better if they'd spent a bit more time on it. Just lacks polish.

I'm up to chapter 6 now.. the Omega Supreme level was very cool.

Finished that today, great fun. Half-way through the Autobot campaign too, it is hardly a masterpiece but it is a hell of a lot of fun.

Still surprised how much fun I'm having online. With more varied maps, I'd say this could easily become one of the big online games. Maps are the only problem I have with it though, in general just superb fun.

I find it very frustrating when you turn on the game and it has to run through a check of something. It takes a good while.

On a positive note I finally got a game online the other night. Was pretty fun.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

Yeah. It's a massive install. And then it has to check for about 3 minutes each time you boot it up to make sure you haven't uninstalled it.

Also doesn't let you copy your save games onto a USB stick... which is annoying as I started playing on someone else's PS3.

I dont know with this one lads 3 decepticon missions done and 1 of the good fella's done and i cant get into it. Just seems liek a pretty average big robot shooter. If big robots shooting each other is an average thing to see i guess;)

If you don't even know that they're called the Autobots, then I could have told you that this isn't the game for you and saved you some cash!;)

Might pick it up when it drops in price a bit I reckon, or just give it a rental
