I'm just passing on a message regarding a kayak stolen in the Enniscorthy area on Monday night (21st). It is an Elio Dolphin K1 with a green deck and yellow hull. There are also three yellow kevlar bands on the bow. You can get a better idea of what the boat looks like at http://www.elio-kayaks.co.uk/InStock.html. It was taken off a car, along with the roofbar straps. If anyone sees something like this abandoned or up for sale please contact Enniscorthy Gardai at 053 924 2580. Thanks.

Just an update to let you know that the kayak has been recovered not far from where it was stolen. Apparently there have been a number of similar thefts in the area recently so keep an eye on your gear folks.

Thanks for the update. Had a boat on the roof in a hotel car park last weekend and I must have gotten up 5 times during the night to check on it :-)

Good news, lovely boat, do you mind me asking where you got it? I am thinking of getting a k style boat for flat water exercise. Would love something light.

It wasn't actually my boat, I was just passing the word around but if you go to their website (www.elio-kayaks.co.uk) you should get the contact details.

Put a wanted ad for a second hand boat on http://www.irishmarathoncanoeing.com/
Don't start in K boats with a brand new boat, the best way to get into k boats and racing is to join a racing club, there aren't very many of them but theres a list on http://www.canoe.ie.

PM me if you want to know more about racing and K boats.

    Update (only passing it on)

K1 was found in a nearby back garden. I had put flyers through the
letterboxes in the area it was stolen. ( I had even put a flyer
through the thief's letterbox!) Somebody who had seen the flyer
spotted it. It had been opportunistically taken with the intention of
selling it on. Putting the flyers around meant that thief couldn't
easily move it without it being seen. Thus it remained local and
waiting to be seen by someone.

Oh right, sorry. Well if you're not interested in competing, you might still be able to get something second ahnd fairly cheap, but in decent condition . . .

Thanks a million for the advice. I probably could have picked something up yesterday at Salmon Leap, there was a competition out there... ah well.

If your looking for something light and fast. I would suggest a wavehopper. Plastic one would be robust as well as more stable than a k boat. If you decide to try a race or two then it would do the job as well.

Great suggestion. Just a few questions, I really appreciate this thetonynator and ZuppyLurk, it's been a while... My last boat was a Perception whippit, the one before a Lawrence sprite! :D

    Are all wavehoppers Perception?

Are they all plastic? Can I get a lighter glass or kevlar one?

Should I use gullwings with the wavehopper?

I would presently have a Sprite sitting in my house. :-) Needs a foot bar but floats (or will with a patch)

I was just suggesting a plastic wavehopper because they are robust. If you can tell me what kind of water and distance you plan to paddle it might make it easier. (Sea or lake or river and how rough?)

I use wings for nearly all my paddling (sea, k-boat) but its a matter of choice.

A k boat would have stability issues initially due to your previous boats. (I will be more than happy to sell you a lovely sprite thou :D ). But well worth the effort if its flat water you have and you feel the need for speed.

It's the lagoon in Dollymount, so it's going to be a two or three k blast in flat water, maybe a bit of a ripple. The boat has to be light as I have to carry it from my house to the shore, about 400 meters. A clout of Liffey descents taught me canoes get really really heavy after 100 meters. If I could get something with the stability of the wavehopper but the lightness of the Dolphin I would be made. I was thinking of picking up an old Invader, but they are pretty slow, I would like a sense of speed.

Thanks for your time, but I think it's back to the drawing board!

@ZL would one of those wheelie things that you use to launch the sea kayak when you're commuting be of any use? I don't know how to explain them apart from looking like a wheelbarrow for kayaks?

A wavehopper is basically a plastic version of a wild water racing boat. Wild water racing boats are usually made of varbon kevlar, although older ones might be of fibreglass. However there aren't usually many second hand ones for sale here. You might see one come up occasionally on the buy and sell section of http://www.irishmarathoncanoeing.com.

Perfect. Thanks a million, looks like what I am after, a glass or kevlar Wild Water boat. That's put that to bed, thanks thetonynator, hunnymonster and ZuppyLurk, mods, sorry for hijacking the stolen kayak thread.
