Check this out, apparently steady aim on the spas does sweet F-all

ADS has no impact unless you use Steady Aim!

    interesting

Wow, just read that on the wiki
This perk increases the accuracy of a weapon when fired from the hip by reducing the size of the crosshairs by 35%. In Modern Warfare 2, its Pro version replaces Iron Lungs. Other than that, this perk has no effect on a weapon's accuracy when the player is aiming down the sights, except for in third person gametypes in Modern Warfare 2. Steady Aim increases the accuracy of shotguns by reducing their spread, making the shotgun less effective for spraying an area but increases the damage done to a single target, which can increase the one shot kill range of a shotgun.

Kind of pointless doing the test then.

I always assumed it just helped with recoil and with the sway on the sniper, guess it's was just a placebo :(

Yes, it shortens the crosshairs. Handy on a shotty hipfiring, but I find grip just as effective and can use something else as perk 3.

SA is my second fav third tier perk after ninja pro.

Slap it on the MPK5 and race around like a maniac mowing down everyone. To instil mega hate akimbo the MPK5. Bring Scavenger pro with you tho.

Works particularly well with any shotgun, smg, G18s akimbo or my favourite the F2000. Hipfire only ya.

I got a total different understanding from that video. SA helps hipfire a lot, and is the most accurate way to use the weapon.

    Spas with Grip & SA
    Hipfire > ADS
(Hipfire test has the tightest bunching of buckshot so is most accurate of all methods)

    Spas with Grip
    Hipfire = ADS

    Spas
    Hipfire = ADS

So basically you want an advantage with the Spas, stick on Steady Aim and just hipfire. (Maybe you meant ADS instead of Steady Aim in the highlighted bit above)

This is totally against what I believed up to now. I quite often used to run around with Sleight of Hand and quickscope the Spas in the same way you would a Sniper rifle, and I thought this was aiding my accuracy & distance. But that's now proved to be totally wrong. I should either run steady aim and hipfire, or not bother trying to quickscope if I'm running Ninja.

Considering the spas-12 was basically the only gun I used from maybe level 1 to 50 (first prestige)..and I based my cod name on it, it was interesting to see that steady aim was the best for me because I don't think I ever ADS once to kill a person, hipfire all the way :D

I remember reading that on cod wiki, so I just kept with the habits I have, spas-12 with extended mags, and steady aim, and just generally ripping people to shreds with it :)

    I love my gun <3

Am I missing something here. You and Tallon make the same point. Steady Aim isn't useless at all. It is the most accurate way to use the gun if you hipfire. ADS with Steady Aim is weaker than Hipfire with Steady Aim. So you were using it in its most accurate form.

I contradicted myself in my first post, I'll change it nao :o

Maybe the title should be "ADS on Spas is BS" ?

To clarify for me what the hell does A.D.S stand for or is it simply the word Ads??? I have often wondered.

Your title is misleading. SA is meant for hip fire on guns like ump. Not for shotguns.

I've always used SA on a shotgun, especially when I'm runnin and gunnin and don't ADS the 35% smaller crosshairs really do help

Shotguns are too overpowered as it is, dont see why you need more help tbh.

Fair enough but, at least I'm not running around like some of those marathon/lightweight/commando pr1cks with those akimbo ranger's/model 1887's.

I agree they are a little overpowered, but they're easily countered with some guns

I don't actually agree here. Overpowered means you have a huge advantage over all other weapons. This isn't the case in my experience, otherwise everyone in the game would be running them instead of the Assault rifles that are the most popular.

A shotgun will kill very quickly at short range in real life, so it's pretty accurate. And their range is pretty short overall, apart from the Spas, although this is actually accurate to real life too. One possible point is that the Shotgun should be a primary rather than secondary, but that's a different debate.

Agree that the title is misleading, as it's only really tested on the Spas. But who said SA is not intended for shotty's?

I can't use akimbo rangers / 1887s. Dunno why but I'm useless with them. The problem with encountering them yourself is normally you have a primary and you meet them in cqc. 7/10 you're screwed. I'd happily take them on with the spas in my hand.

How can you say that. Main guns take 3-5 bullets to kill someone Vs scrubs running round / camping with 1 shot kill shotguns that you dont even have to aim properly.

Stop with the "real-life" comparisons. It's a game and we want to have fun/make it fairer to play/more rewarding for the skilled player.

If you want real life go fight in afghanistan

Yeah, but main guns are have huge advantages over mid-long range. Shotty's are powerful up close, but lose that very quickly once you go out to any range.

I know that there is feck all skill in someone camping with double rangers, and I'm not saying that's not a PITA. But I think overpowered means that something is dominant in all circumstances in game. If shotty's were like that, you'd have everyone running them. I'd say around 70% of kills I suffer are still from AR's. Shotties might be 10-15%?? They only suit certain maps and certain circumstances, where something like the TAR is a beast in 90% of circumstances.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,411 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

I'd agree the TAR is a great all rounder but the LSW 86 with SP is pretty good in all situations too. 2 shot kill from anywhere and it's a beast up close. Handle the recoil and you're good to go at all ranges.

Speaking of this, has anyone used the shotgun attachments on any of the guns? It's ****ing ridiculous

Isn't the range not dire? I'm actually ashamed to say I've never used it as according to http://denkirson.xanga.com/715966769/modern-warfare-2/ it's worthless. I really shouldn't be frightened to experiment :)

Yeah, I use it on my stinger class. Assault rifle with shotgun, and stinger secondary. Means I'm covered at all ranges. It's not as strong as the regular shotguns I find. Less shot pellets than most other shottys, and average damage. But the range is insane. It's the same as the regular bullets! A little slower between shots than the Spas too, so you gotta try to be accurate with your first shot.

Huh. That's been changed then. It used to be savage range, so must have been nerfed in one of the patches.

No I really don't know I really haven't used it before. I realised recently that I've
    - never got a kill with the AK47
    - never shot the WA2000
    - used the uzi for the first time yesterday
    - never shot the M4 or MG4 ?? (the 3rd and last LMGs)
    - never shot the M16

I get stuck into a particular weapon / perk / attachment and just cant put them down.

I've never used a few guns too. But the AK is class when you unlock it, the Uzi is great fun too. The Mg4 is pretty good, huge clip size and great with thermal. M16 is the same as the famas apart from the ironsight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,411 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

I'm not great with burst weapons or the fal they just don't suit me. That said on the odd occassion I get the famas to work it just feels godly.:)

Uzi is fun but just feel MPK5 for cqc and ump as an all rounder are better. MPK5 / Uzi and P90 are hilarious with SP and rapid fire just don't plan hitting anything smaller than a barn from 15 feet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,456 ✭✭✭Jev/N

Yep, Steady Aim is only for hipfire - tightens up the spread when firing and, in the case of the shotguns, increases the range slightly.

It wouldn't want to be used with the AA-12 IMO, as the wideness of the spray is it's benefit

Also, the grip helps to reduce draw time, which is handy

See here for all the info about shotguns:

From what I can tell, and from my own experience, SA is pretty much of most benefit with one of the SMGs. And was that bug with the FAL shotgun attachment fixed? I remember the range on it was completely illogical, saw vids of people pointing out how big an error it was, range beyond what it should be.
