    Full month afaik.

Can you leave it off the road until the 1st of July and tax it then?

Full month of June. Can't tax cars for partial months.

That's a bit ****. I'll just tax it in July. But I'll be honest, I will still drive it.

If the car is registered to you since yesterday then you will have to tax it for June.
Unless the car is off the road for which you can get a form signed/stamped at the local Garda station and then tax it from July,
But you will e driving your car so it might not be possible to get that done.

Jesus just tax the bloody thing like you are obliged to by law. If you don't you have to go and lie to the guards and say it's off the road for June, well worth doing that to save a few euro (not). The tax office have the date you bought it on file too so the only way to wait until July it to lie to the guards.

Keep your knickers on gpf! Yeah I'll just tax it 1st July. I pay enough tax being a motorist as is, so not giving them three weeks tax for fúck all.

They will insist you pay for june.
It is not a matter of walking into the tax office and saying. F*ck you.. I am only paying from July.

As a matter of interest..How much is the annual tax?

Its €614 for the year. I'll just drive it on the 1st July instead and tax it then. Not giving them money for nothing, no way.

So it's not being driven on the road until the 1st July? In which case, you are perfectly entitled to get it signed off the road between the date you bought it and the 1st July.

You'll need to have the RF100 signed and stamped by the Gardai before taxing the vehicle. They will sign to witness that you are declaring the vehicle off the road.

Just out of curiosity, do you have to provide any proof to Gardai that the car was actually off the road, or will they just take your word for it and sign and stamp the form?

which can be found here - http://www.environ.ie/en/LocalGovernment/MotorTax/PublicationsDocuments/FileDownLoad,489,en.pdf

place for the declaration and garda signiture is at the bottom.

no you dont, you can just say it was off the road and they will ask you why and then they sign it if they are happy with your reason.

yes, it really is that easy!!!

The Gardai are not signing your car off the road, they are merely witnessing your signature and it's you declaring the car off the road. If the car hasn't been off the road then that's making a false declaration which can be quite serious in the eyes of the law - if you are caught.

Yeah, its a killer getting up at the crack of twenty-to-eleven!

Its usually worth closing the deal on the first of the following month (on paper at least) if tax is out.

I bought a car once on 29th October.
Had to tax it for the month.
If the cost of taxing your car for one month is putting you under pressure then maybe Public Transport would be more suitable for you.

haha good one vectra. It obviously cost you fu*k all to tax that horse you rode in on

no annual motor tax, tax on fuel would be the solution to this nonsense
imagine taxing a car for a whole month and you only drive it a day

And on that note, I think we're done here.
