Its about the deep south american family. Patriotic and rooted to all they grew up with. Hanks father was a Vietnam vet. so he devloped a love of all things symbolic to america like steak, BBQs, eagles ect.

His son Is becoming more in touch with the world, much to hanks distaste as he wants him to turn out like himself. Much of the comedy comes from his over-reactions to normal things his son does.

My favourite character is Dale. Hes just crazy and obsessed with insects and cigarettes.

so basically if you like it you like it If you don't you don't. Theres not many people who like it because its never on TV anymore.

Ya..maybe i'd get it if i lived in down south in america. But at least you can relate to other cartoon comedies (simpsons, family guy e.g) here.

Bit too "white trash" for my taste.

It's on e4 a good bit at night. Wish they showed repeats of the IT crowd etc. at night.

Never got 'King Of The Hill' at all.

So much plod to get to the gag. None of the main characters are funny. Maybe it doesn't cross the Atlantic as well as other programmes.

No reason to watch it, especially when you consider it was broadcast at the same time as some brilliant animated comedies, like The Simpsons and Family Guy at their peak.

I like it, it would be one of my favourite animated shows.

Hank, Bobby, Dale and Cotton are all great characters IMO.

I love this show. Have all the DVDs and the seasons that havn't been released on DVD I've got off the internet. Over the past few years I have watched it far more than Simpsons, South Park, Family Guy, all of which I am (or have been) a fan of. Its humor is very subtle and episodes might seem slow paced because its not a show where its one laugh out loud joke followed by another, to be honest I don't find many laugh out loud moments in it but it always leave a smile on my face. A lot of the humor is rooted in everyday occurrences, character related and require a bit of thinking. Most of the best jokes I find come from the logic behind some of the comments the characters make.

I'd definitely say that it's my favourite animated series, I never get sick of it and have watched and re-watched the series several times. Its a love or hate show, I know both people who can't stand the sight of the show and others who absolutely love it.

Everybody should give this show a chance, on first watch you mightn't get it but it opens up once get to know the characters and their quirks.

At first i didnt like it but it grew on me. Not a laugh a minute like family guy but more engaging storylines .

Two great points, because it is pure brilliant at times, like how Dale is fully convinced that his son is his son even though he bears a very striking resemblence to the native american character John Redcorn.

Its very similar to the joke in "Family Guy" where Joe's wife is always pregant even though Joe is in a wheelchair.

You have to admit the shows intro is one of the best, but yeah I'd choose the old episodes of the Simpsons over it any day!

I used to like it but haven't seen it in a long time. I never watched it sequentially and probably missed out on a lot of the jokes for that reason.

I've also never been able to pronounce the word 'propane' in anything but a Hank Hill accent.

It's a great little show. Not for everyone but it doesn't really go for that.

Really?? thought he was a vietnam vet because theres a few episodes that he drools over asian women, but also gets pissed off at the men like Hanks neighbour

If you didn't know that then there's some great episodes you've obviously missed out on like Hank and family's trip to Japan, the 'Nam vets being treated badly by Cotton and the WW2 vets etc etc. Get watching!

Great show. Its not a show that trys to fit as many 'gags' in a minute as possible, ala Family Guy[which has been dreadful for years]. It allows the characters to breath and develop over the episode, meaning the humour is created organically ,from the situations the characters find themselves in, as opposed to Family Guy, which mostly consists of characters making painfully unfunny one-liners.
It is also, as I have found, a fantastic show to rewatch! Prob. as close in tone to an animated Arrested Development as I have seen.

Well unlike the Simpsons and South Park for example, King of the Hill has managed to maintain a pretty consistent (very high in my opinion) quality in it's what? 13 year existence? I think that it is painfully overlooked behind the likes of the Simpsons, South Park, Family guy, American Dad etc. What one of it's rivals has maintained such a high standard for so long? I know standard is subjective but I believe the programme has stayed true to it's roots. The thing I love about King of the Hill is that has never become too zany and it's never relied on guest stars or trying to be topical. OK I know that it has it's moments in zanyness especially with Bill and Dale but it's never gone outside of the realms of possibility.

It has had quite a number of guest stars on it (the episode with Chris Rock is a classic) but what I like about it is that the guest stars usually voice a character written for the show instead of just voicing an animated version of themselves. Tom Petty does a great job of Luanne's husband Lucky, took me a while to realise it was him.

Ok i agree how simpsons, family guy etc. have slipped in quality, but.. maybe i just have to watch those 'laugh out loud' comedies. i can actually watch the show, just never laugh at it.

That's my faourite Simpsons episode, the best bit is when Hank Scorpio takes the loose sugar out of his pocket and then asks Homer if he wants cream. Homer says "errrrr nooooo....."
