I'd heard rumours a while back that the guards where no longer running these sales. I think they used to hold them twice a year. Of course with the recession back on they might start them up again.

You could try searching http://www.garda.ie to see if they are back on.

They've been outsourced to an auctioneers, it was run last year in October by Merlin car Auctions in Kylemore. Didn't go myself, but heard it was mainly junk with one or two OK to good bikes which got bid up fast.

Rothar.ie are a better bet for a decent secondhand or self built bike I reckon.

If I saw my stolen bike there would I be able to get it back, given that it would match the description of the garda report I filed?

I went to the bike auction today. Very disappointed. I went early to check out the bikes and the were so bad I didn't even hang around for the auction.

I can't believe I had to pay a fiver to even have a look at them. Not one bike look in good working order. Nearly all had something serious wrong.
It shouldn't have been advertised as a bike auction but a scrap auction.

A real old fashioned Irish scam.

Will be contacting merlin to complain.
