Or are there no excuses to get fancy these days?! Given that the 'in' look for going out in town at the moment is generally very casual (super-casual in a lot of places), I'm left without reason to get dressy lately. So annoying. My birthday is tomorrow and, though I'm working all day, I'm gonna go out afterwards with the work crowd. Tried on an outfit a few mins ago and looked fairly slick but, unfortunately, I know no one else will be bothered to get dressy. So, apart from wearing a suit to a wedding next month, all my fancy clothes are getting moth-eaten in the wardrobe as I'm left wearing cons and jeans on every night out. GIMME AN EXCUSE TO GET FANCY!!!

Just wear your dressy stuff anyway! I'd wear going out clothes any time I go out - even if everyone else is wearing jeans. Anyway, you'll stand out even more if you dress up against the grain and if you're wearing something gorgeous, you may as well stand out!!

Yah, that's what I generally do. ;) I'd like some sort of event to go to though where everyone's dressed nice. Like some sort of ball or something.... Dublin needs more fancy nights!

Awh I'd love to get far more dressed up than I do for a night up! I have loads of lovely dresses and fancy trousers that just wouldn't fit in at The Oak/Crawdaddy/Fibbers :p I'm sure there are loads of places I could go, but I'm only 20, not quite ready for poncy, fancy bars where everyone works in "morketing".

If you went to university, do they have "town and gown" events, where alumni are invited? I seem to remember that Trinner's had their share of such events.

I would totally love to have something to get all dressed up for. It's not just you!

Every day is dress up day. Don't wait for excuses. Get home from work, change into something smart and carry on the rest of tour day. Go for a pint with your mates. Go to a bbq. Go to Tescos. Who says you have to follow the masses or be one of the sheeple?

    Happy BeerDay NW! :)

I went to a reasonably fancy restaurant last week and was a bit disappointed to see a guy wearing combat shorts and a tee-shirt.....I wouldn't tell him not to do it - its his choice what he wants to wear, plus its summer, plus I think he was a tourist and Irish people in Spain would be fairly bad offenders for casual dress code. Having said that, it did take away a bit from the decorum of the place. By contrast, I went for a meal in Seville recently, and while the meal was good, perhaps the most entertaining aspect of the evening was how well people were dressed.

Gosh I couldn't agree more OldGoat. You shouldn't need an occasion. :) I most certainly don't!

Hmm, I'm going to town today, a dress is definitely in order now :D It's great with my BF in the winter, as his day to day attire would be quite neat and well presented - black skinnies, shirt, tie, v-neck jumper, brogues, blazer, so I don't feel silly when we're out together. But now he's in 3/4 lengths and loose shirts. Dang!

I dress up regardless of what everybody else is wearing or where I'm going. I love dressy clothes, be they for going out in or just heading to college. My casual is normally a lot smarter than my classmates and sometimes I do feel a bit out but what the heck, I'm wearing a nice dress so it's all good!

I like nice clothes, smart jackets and pretty dresses so I just wear them, why bother waiting on an excuse?! I feel more comfortable in them too. So op, wear what you fancy, when you fancy! Life is too short to be hanging around in jeans and runners! :P

This made me choke a little on my glass of pimms! (well, improvised Pimms). Altho I can see what Twee is saying, it's the same story here; the bf in shorts tee and flip flops, such a change!

No harm dressing up - you'll stand out!

I love making a bit of an effort for a night out -leather belt and shoes and a sharp, crisp shirt when everyone else is wearing the exact same checked shirt and converse, makes you feel slick!
