How to get World Cup in HD?

Now that we have entered the last games of the group stage of the FIFA World Cup; the final two games of each group are played and broadcast simultaneously and instead of showing one game each on ITV1 HD and BBCHD (which would be the obvious thing to do) they have chosen instead to broadcast the higher profile game in High Definition and the lower one in crappovision (Standard Definition).

Todays Group A games saw South Africa V France broadcast on ITV1 HD and Uruguay V Mexico broadcast on ITV4 in SD. However the bitrate and picture quality on ITV4 was was very poor and it was like watching a 360p youtube video or a recording of a 1970's match! RTÉ had chosen to broadcast South Africa V France so they were no help either.

This evening BBCHD are broadcasting Argentina V Greece in HD and BBC3 are showing Nigeria V South Korea in SD.

To watch the matches in High Definition, BBCHD is channel 143 on SkyHD and channel 108 on Freesat.

ITV1 HD is channel 119 in Freesat but is not on the EPG of Irish Sky+ HD boxes and must be tuned into "other channels".

The frequency is 11427 H 27.5 and the channel name is "10510"

See this youtube video on how to do this:

ITV1 HD is now broadcasting full-time and shows some of the World Cup games in High Definition.

The simulcast games are being shown by on ITV4 in Standard Definition and the tuning process for this is the same as above only using a different frequency. ITV4 and ITV4+1 are not on the Irish Sky EPG but can be added like ITV1 HD as above

    ITV4 is: 10758 V 22.0, 5/6
    ITV4+1 is: 10832 H22.0 5/6

When BBCHD are broadcasting they have the lower profile game on BBC3 in Standard Definition.

The tuning process for a Sky+HD box again is the same and the frequency is:

    BBC3: 10773 H, 22.0, 5/6

if you have a different FTA receiver the tuning for BBCHD is:

    BBCHD: 10847 V, 22.0, 5/6

If you want to the watch the lower profile game on High Definition then if all you have is a Sky+HD box or Freesat product then you are out of luck and will have to endure it in crappovision SD. If all you have is a standard Irish standard definition box or Sky+ box then you can still tune in BBC3 and ITV4 using the same frequencies as above, it a little different to the Sky+HD boxes and is explained well here.

However if you have a motorised dish then move that puppy over to Eurobird 9A @ 9.0°E and tune in Hungarian Magyar Television's Channel M2 HD at 11957 V 27.500 where they are currently showing Nigeria V South Korea in full HD at 1080i free to air, the commentary is in Hungarian but are least we don't have to listen to Mick McCarthy drone on. :D

    Happy Watching

P.S If someone is a member of the soccer thread then maybe they could link this over there as I am awaiting on my access request!

    Happy Viewing!!

    Elvis is dead

Someone spends time typing up a detailed instruction, trying to help other people and you just jump straight on them.

Dude, you're sooooo coooool. Like the coolest.

The whole point of my post is to advise people on how to watch the FIFA 2010 World Cup in High Definition. The easiest way to do this is via astra 28.2 east and using both the BBCHD and ITV1 HD channels, how ever when this is not possible then my solution for those with motorised dishes should help. :)

With all due respect m8, most of us that post in this section know the above information - we really should do being sort of experts imo.

Your post done no harm - I'll live through the weekend :)

I'm gonna say kudos to Stinicker for the very detailed post.

Whilst it may not really belong in here (though "Foreign Satellite" should be renamed to "Advanced Satellite" or something to avoid confusion), it's still well written and informative.

Anyway, BBC and ITV are foreign... :D:D

    Yes fair dues Stinicker.

As Manc-Red says, we know this stuff. I use LG televisions with freesat built in around the house. Fed from an octo LNB . No need for messy boxes and cables.

Still 28e Freesat doesn't hold a candle to spiderbox.
    Now thats the business.

Still trying to figure how to squeeze 16e between 13 and 19. :D

Must invest in a Wave Frontier some day if the Missus doesn't mind the house looking like Mission Control.

So thanks for the informative post.
