    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a little more about tesco car insurance or tesco finance.

I got a quote for €287 online but I am unsure what kind of policy it is as they use weird terminology to tie it in with their own brands i.e. tesco value, tesco finest etc. It is therefore every difficult to see what kind of policy you are getting.

Are all these policies "fully comprehensive" as my quote, a tesco value quote says its "comprehensive cover".

    It includes:

    Comprehensive Cover
    Uninsured driving protection
Breakdown Assist for Ireland & UK
Third party "driving other cars" cover
No loss of NCD for fire or theft claims
New car replacement if yours is written off
€500 Min excess, reduced if you use our approved repairer
Cover for in car entertainment equipment

    All for €287.

What has been your experience with Tesco finance, good or bad??

I have been with Quinn for three years (I am 25 female) but they have quoted me €418 for third party ( i think i paid this last year!). Next best quote is with www.nononsense.ie - fully comp, with addittional driver for €380.

Im so confused!! Policy isnt up for a cuple of weeks but need to budget for it!!

    Thanks in advance!

Your best bet would be to ring around and ask for these things to be explained to you. Online quoting systems are very poor imo. You can't beat speaking to a broker over the phone and asking for advice on cover.

€500 is a fairly hefty excess, mine is €125. Other than that, ask them all to send out the documentation so you can compare. If you're unsure about anything, don't be afraid to ring them and ask - it's what they're paid for.:)

Tesco policies used to be underwritten by Hibernian. So were the same policies but cheaper . Now I they are unwritten by another company.

Ive heard they are now underwritten by RSA. They are the cheapest quote Ive gotten and it appears the cover is in fact third party but thats ok, my car isnt a ferrari anyway! Think im going to go with it as I save approx €120 on my current quote with Quinn.

    Thanks for advise guys!

Whats your current policy with Quinn; fully comp or 3rd party? What car are you driving?

What car are you currently driving; like how much is it worth to replace?

    apologies for delay!!

    Third party T&F.
    I drive a 03 Yaris.

Its not really worth putting fully comp on at this stage i think.

Depends on the value of the car really. Though maybe for that low of a premium(from my young male driver perspective :)) it could be worth it.

getting comprehensive cover purely depends on the value of the car, also €500 seems very high

Bear in mind that having comprehensive wont help you in the event of a crash on a single car road - as in the case of my parents recently. They had an accident, car had to be written off (parents fine thank god:eek:) but even tho they had comprehensive, they only got 50 / 50 payout.

(accident caused by other driver, who was a rally car driver, going around doing pace notes, my dad always drives 20 KMPH on that road as he knows the dangers there, yet they suffered as a result of wreckless driving!!)

So check that out as well - read the small print too!! :D

I work for Aviva, who used to do the tesco insurance, its deffo not bad, ask about an option to reduce your excess, you might have to pay an extra 20/30 quid, but worth it if your even in an accident, (god forbid!). Good deal, its as cheap as mine and thats with staff discounts too!! Plus, the staff are dead on ;)

    Thanks everyone!
I went with the quote (it was actually €276 online in the end)
It seems to be "comprehensive" and all in all an ok quote.
Flip it, lets hope I dont have to see how good the policy is!!
I would def check out tesco.ie the next time you looking for a quote.
A motor insurance quote for under €300? Im happy!

Wow - first I ever heard of anything like this! Are you saying that the two insurance companies decided to split the blame between them, or that your father only got paid 50% of the amount he should have got?

    Doesn't make sense.

Comp. is comp. Liability is another issue.
