What exactly are you looking for? I have a double room available a 10 min walk from uni but we are a grown up household so it is not a crazy student loud house. However, am not an ogar either and will not keep watch on what time you come in etc... I just want my home respected. Let me know what you are looking for and if it is for a semester or the year.
    Ta

You shouldn't have any problem with Corrib Village, I know people who booked there after getting the LC results. Same with Dunaras, a bit further away but nicer. Cuirt na Coiribe and Gort na Coiribe are really nice but are probably booked up by now, but you could put your name on the waiting list :)

First Years are generally always put into corrib, unless asked otherwise. this would be best palce and its easy enoug hto get accomidation from them.

Yeah, its easy to get accommodation there because its crap! The rooms are ****e, the noise is awful, and they are 1 step away from strip searching you before they let you in the gates at night not to mention that it looks like a prison camp from the outside. Dunaras is also crap. It's miles away from college and it's the polar opposite of corrib. Totally dead these days. But the apartments aren't too bad. If you have to go with student accommodation, try and get a place in Gort na Corribe, but you might be too late to apply. I'm not sure.

But I would actually advise you to stay away from student accommodation if you can, especially if you are serious about studying and stuff. Definately avoid Corrib like the plague. You will get NO work done, I guarantee. Me and a friend found a good house in Newcastle to rent in first year and am glad I did. Had to live with a few randomers though, but luckily they werent too bad. And the good thing is there are PLENTY of houses on the market at the moment and the rent is pretty cheap now, you'll definitely not be stuck for choice even if you leave it till after the LC's get their results.

Corrib didnt seem too bad when I went there at the Open day
Does look like a concentration camp from the outside though :p

Happy enough I have my place in Gort :D
Do many first years stay at Gort?

I know someone who was offered a place in both Corrib and Gort after the Leaving Cert results were out so there's still hope!

Corrib is definitely the best place for first years. So what if the accomodation is crap? You'll appreciate everywhere you stay much more in future! It is so not fair to say you won't get any study done. Yes, you can. And the Cairnes building is a 2 minute walk if you need a printer or anything.

I moved into Corrib when I was a first year, not knowing a single person in Galway. I made the best friends ever and had the mightiest craic. I didn't go out much in semester one because a lot of my friends weren't 18 at the time and I have to say semester one of first year was, hands down, the best couple of months of my life. If we were looking for a night of mayhem, we could find it and if we were looking for a quiet night to watch tv, we got that too. It's not all parties!

I moved to Gort in second year still living with my housemates from Corrib. Gort seems to have a lot of second years, a small few third years, and then the rest were first years or else Erasmus students.

Choose Corrib for first year! Where the walls aren't plastered but the students are! (Exceptions apply! ;))

I don't mean to hijack the thread but does NUIG offer any accommodation for postgraduates only?I've just gotten accepted for a Master's and the thought of sharing with undergrads doesn't really appeal to me

You're better off looking at accomodation in the private sector as it works out cheaper imho. There are plenty of landlords looking for responsible tenants.
