I've sent passport application for my baby boy through the Passport Express almost 3 weeks ago. On the dfa.ie was information that it takes 10 working days and information that my application was "Received on 04/06/2010 and has been registered." Nothing has changed till today. My wife was talking with somebody from passport office today and he said that it takes 25 working days(website says 22)not 10 and still nothing is done with the applications.
How long usually you have to wait for a passport?

Where have you been for the last six months?

The passport office has been on a go-slow since February (or maybe earlier) and there is now a backlog of 60,000 passports waiting to be made.

The passport express service in any kind of normal country where union pricks don't strike for the right to sit around scratching their hole, should take ten working days.

At present in Ireland, passport express takes 25 working days (i.e. five weeks).

There is a huge back-log at the mo so i'd say it will be a few weeks more.

Took me about 6 weeks in total - from first week of May to the second week of June

If your really in a hurry to get an Irish passport the easiest thing to do is just head down to the Israeli embassy they have loads of them to give out.

You may be aware that one of the machines in the passport office was damaged by flooding..the staff simply elected not to do unpaid overtime after the govt decided to cut thier wages.
Maybe if people planned thier passports well in advance of tier need to travel there wouldnt be such a backlog.

Maybe if the employees in the passport office took their finger out there wouldn't be a backlog.

But when teh staff werent working to rule everything went smoothly enough, yes?
That would imply they were doing more than thier share beforehand.

3 weeks exactly via passport express. Posted application Fri May 27th. Got passport Friday June 19th. We didn't do anything to try to speed it up. Seems to be sortng itself out in there.

Hi I posted my passport on the 25th of May and received it in the post on Monday 21st of June. However I did go in last week to the passport office to see what was happening as I am going away tomorrow. I don't know if me going in moved things along but I figured it was worth a try and it worked! :)
