J1 Location Debate?

Hey, guys. I'm planning a J1 and would seriously appreciate any help anyone has to offer.

I've been doing a lot of research about where to go and I'm really stuck between a few places. I'm going to be working for 3 months, and doing 2 stopovers, one before I start working and one after. (I have already picked locations for these so it's ok. Don't need help there.)

I have picked a few locations and was wondering if people could give me some Pro's and Con's for them? Oh, I will also be 19 so let me know how strict it is on serving drink. I'll be under 21 for my whole college life so I can't wait for another year or anything. I'm also a girl if that makes any difference on how strict they are??

Locations I have narrowed it down to:

    San Diego, California
    Berkley, San Francisco
    MIT? , Boston

They're the locations I have heard are the best so if anyone has been to one (or more) of them, could you just leave a little post about why it's good and why it's bad?

Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks guys.

Do you have any work organised? Or have any connections? There are a lot of popular places that are near impossible to get summer work. (hopefully things will be better next year)

The US is very strict for underage drinking. If you really want a summer of drinking find somewhere around college dorms or near the Mexico border (however this is not advised, it is quite dangerous along the border).

Personally, I would not suggest San Diego, housing and jobs are pretty tough to find. Berkley is also very popular with J-1ers so this may make it difficult too. I'm not sure on the situation in Boston.

You should try maybe looking up resorts more inland which aren't as popular. You could get a good job, make something from tips and go visit the surrounding cities every now and again. (an example would be Palm Springs in California).

    Good luck!

    Thanks for the response!

The job situation isn't going to be much of a problem, because I am currently working for a company who said they have branches all over for America and would be able to give me part-time work if I was ever travelling, which is pretty sound.

I'm just looking at this as a way to really experience America and just have a deadly time. So, the place would have to have nice people, good night life and stuff to do during the day and stuff.

Getting accomodation in San Diego is always really hard but I think its still the nicest place of the three. It is beautiful. California is fairly strict on the id though. It been a couple of years since I was there but they were always looking for passports or state id, it was very hard to blag your way in somewhere!!
