Right, I have read recently that many packages are bein gstopped by customs. Just wondering, if I buy an item from oversees, and the website I am buying off doesn't include VAT and Excise duty etc, how do I pay it? DO I just wait till it's stopped by Customs and then pay them or what?

My Friend And I recently bought 2 scopes from over seas, they arrived and customs picked them up, we went to collect them and the post office who had the package charged us 30 euro tax.

Customs will pick it up check it and once they clear it will send it onto the post office who will charge you what ever customs tell them to.

When the post office delivers it they'll ask for the money at your front door. They don't carry change or take cards, but they can take a cheque because apparently this is the 19th century still.

If that doesn't work out because you don't have any money or aren't there, it'll be returned to your local distribution office and you can grab it there, where they do have change and the facility for taking cards. Unfortunately your local distribution office isn't as local as your local sorting office - most stuff that doesn't get delivered is a five-minute walk from my house, but stuff needing customs whatsits paid is about an hour's walk.
