    Hi Lisa,

Please can you tell us a little more about this competition so I know whether to leave these links up or not.

    Thanks

The first link provided is to a blog post by a friend of mine who has organised the competition.

Basically, over ten weeks there will be a set of prompts issued - the first is "I can be happy". The writer then writes a short story and enters. Over the weeks and challenges, points will be issued (1st place for a week gets 25 points, etc).

The overall winner gets featured in a magazine, on the blog, and may also receive a prize.

I will say though, I didn't organise the competition. I'm just promoting it for a friend. :D

    Hello all!

We are running monthly competitions on our Creative Writing Ink website. The best fiction and poetry excerpts posted on the forum will be selected and included in our quarterly e-journal (with your permission of course). The winners will also be listed on our website and in our monthly newsletter. An overall winner will also be selected each quarter and will receive a free critique of a manuscript of their choice, which will be carried out by one of our authors.

We have also added new pages, including a Writers Resources page, where you will find a list of writing groups around the country, broken down by county along with useful websites for writers. We have also included a comprehensive list of publishers and literary agents in Ireland along with a "Competitions & Events" page.

In addition, if you would like to write an article for our forthcoming Creative Writing Ink members blog, which is for subscribers to our newsletter and/or discussion forum, please contact us by email at info@creativewriting.ie with details. It can include news on your writing, publishing or competition success or indeed anything related to writing.

You'll find more details on our website, www.creativewriting.ie. This month's newsletter has already been issued which includes details of writing competitions and freelance writing market news. If you would like a copy however, just email me at info@creativewriting.ie

    Thanks! Olive

Closing date for entries is August 6, 2010.

For details, see the latest edition of the Guide.

Are details in the Guide out this week or last week? Had a look in the most recent edition today but could not see anything?

I was wondering the same thing. I found this online:
Entries must not have been previously published or broadcast and be 1,500 words or less. Entries can be sent to The Books Competition, RTÉ Guide, RTÉ, Donnybrook, Dublin 4. The closing date is Friday, 6th August.

EDIT: Press release from Penguin Ireland with more details can be found here.

Hmm, I can't remember if it is this week or last...I was browsing the Guide in a shop! Maybe they'll have more info on the website.

I finished my entry for the RTÉ Guide short story competition, but I was so busy I somehow managed to forget to send it. I sent it yesterday morning (6th of August, which was the closing date), so it should reach them Monday the 9th because there's no post on the weekend.

Oh well, I doubt they'll accept it, they tend to be very strict about deadlines, I think? It's such a shame. There was no chance of me winning, but I would have loved the opportunity to attend the workshop.
