    Hi all,
Thinking of getting one for my parents so I'm looking for folks opinions on these boxes and which one is better and why.
The Mvision is 23~euro more expensive and I've heard folks saying the Edision units used not to be the best quality (but that might have changed?)

Thanks in advance for your opinions and your vote in the poll :)

Which one of these Terrestrial/Satellite combo boxes would you go for? 9 votes

I think you should add Qbox HD Mini into the mix. Its Linux o/s would lead to better updating possibilities now and down the line. The hardware spec is a great base to work off.

I am not a user of any, or expert, just based on my quick read of specs and feedback etc on this forum.

Looks like I should also throw Traix Sat & DTT Combi - ST-HD527CI into the mix too

Is it the case that more companies will bring the wares to Ireland so the prices will drop?

I had an MVision HD300 and although picture quality etc was very good the PVR functionality was almost unusable and in many cases actually unusable (intermittent gaps in audio, time shift often going back to live after you hit play). I returned it for the Edision Mini and found it to be an excellent device when it works but I am a bit frustrated as it appears to have a hardware fault causing reboots and sometimes I need to rotate the box for it to boot! I think I need to return it for a replacement as nobody else seems to be having this problem.

Had a Mvision 300 combi which would display no channels found and loose channels, also picture had a intermitent flicker fault.

Don't forget the Ferguson Ariva Combo.

Watch one tuner, record another, stable PVR, nice remote with codes for hundreds of TVs, decent enough interface. Also the yellow and green buttons skip forward and back one minute in an hour long recording, 3 or 4 clicks and the ads are skipped.

Only major annoyance is that it changes channel when about to go into record regardless of whether it conflicts or not. Can anyone tell me, do any of the other combos mentioned do this?

Just to follow up on this one, my box was indeed faulty and my replacement works flawlessly, no more reboots/crashes. Thanks to SaorTV for arranging a replacement box and a swap with the courier.

With DTT to launch by end of Oct Soarview approved receivers should start appearing on the shelves by then, zappers, PVRs etc. That should reduce the confusion and questions regarding which receiver will work with Irish DTT and increase the range of receivers on the shelf.
